Exclusive Georgie Thompson interview

Exclusive Georgie Thompson interview
Part one - The World Cup

How will you be watching the World Cup?
I'm planning on using the World Cup as an opportunity to get my girlfriends interested in football! It won't be easy but I will be providing Rosito cocktails and fine food to make it easier for them.

Read our guide to planning your perfect World Cup party.

Do you have a drink of choice?
The Gallo Rosito - it's so easy to make. It's a mix of ginger ale, rosé wine and summer berries so really refreshing and is far more glamorous than a bottle of beer.

Watch our cocktail video and find out how to make the perfect Gallo Rosito.

Do you and Dec watch matches together?
We both enjoy watching football and, I assume along with the rest of the nation, will be glued to events in South Africa.
Will you be covering the action for Sky Sports?
I will be covering the early stages from London for Sky Sports News and then, should England make it through the quarter-finals, I'll be on the first plane out to South Africa to see things through.
Which teams will England need to watch out for?
The USA for starters, our first group game is against them and it's not a foregone conclusion. Nothing in international football is easy or a given. But I can't see (the other members of England's World Cup group) Algeria or Slovenia causing us too many problems.
How far do you think England will go in the tournament?
We have to start well with a win against the USA, which I fear won't be as easy as we'd like. If we beat the USA then barring some catastrophe we should go through as group winners. As long as we don't suffer injuries to key players we might even win it.
What will you be wearing to the matches?
If we get to the final I will be wearing the dress that was commissioned by Gallo for our shoot. It's made out of vintage football shirts from all over the world, I can't think of anything more fitting!

What do you say to women who don't like football?
It's going to very hard for anyone to avoid the World Cup this summer so I'd say don't fight it, just embrace it and maybe you'll even enjoy it. You can still get into the spirit of the game and make football fabulous this summer by sharing a bottle of Gallo White Grenache with your girlfriends while the footy is on in the background.
Can you explain the offside rule?
Look at it this way... You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have. The 'opposing' female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire but both of you have forgotten your purses. Now, it would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes but your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma. She prepares to throw her purse to you. If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes. See? All you have to do is make it relevant to understand it!
