The beautifully restored 18th century mansion is set in 400 acres of countryside, but is just miles from Newcastle city centre.
Owned by businessman Graham Wylie, the hotel and surrounding grounds and golf courses have been redeveloped to a breathtaking standard in recent years.
Looking for a dose of luxury? Then the hotel's recently opened Courtyard is the place for you. Situated in what was a former stable block, the 12 rooms are each named after a premium golf course to reflect their superior standards of comfort.
The suites are all vast, beautifully decorated and designed to make you feel special. After a weekend of free standing baths, plush sofas, gigantic beds, heated tiles and spacious showers, you'll struggle to leave.
Eat & drink
The opulent and beautiful Argent D'Or restaurant opened at the beginning of the year and gives a nod to the glamour and style of James Bond classic Casino Royale.
Even the hungriest diner can't fail to be impressed by the amazing décor, gold chairs, mirrored paneling and sparkling chandeliers.
If you can drag your attention back to your plate, you won't be disappointed. Executive head chef Simon Walsh is a champion of local food and tries to source all produce from nearby which means every dish is created with the freshest of ingredients to give it the best flavour.
Why you'd bother leaving the comfy confines of the hotel or your luxurious room is a mystery, but if you have itchy feet (or a man in tow) then head to No. 19, Close House's clubhouse for panoramic views of the ground and golf course.
From there, golfing widows can enjoy the scenery, the menu of seasonal dishes and perhaps a glass or two of wine. If you're feeling particularly keen, book a golfing lesson with one of the Close House pros.
If travelling further afield is more your style, Newcastle city centre and quayside are a mere seven miles away and the Close House staff can arrange tailor made shopping outings including chauffeur driven cars and personal shoppers.
History buffs can head to Hadrian's Wall or the beautiful Alnwick Castle in Northumberland and a visit to the north east coastline is a must whatever the time of year.
This is a hotel which must be explored. Have a wander around the grounds and then relax in front of the huge fireplace for afternoon tea or a glass of bubbly.
Prices start from £150 for bed and breakfast (based on a classic room; courtyard suites start from £240).
