Why go?

Brimming with Geordie pride, the stauesque hotel is built on the former Newcastle brewery site and is opposite St James's Park – home to Newcastle United.

The plush reception area will seduce you on arrival and the hotel oozes class right up to the rooftop fitness suite. It goes without saying that the great and the good of football can be spotted at the hotel and its location a mere stroll from Newcastle's Chinatown, shops and nightlife makes the hotel a fab location for a weekend break.

Book in at the Sandman and you'll get more than the average hotel experience. Arrive in your spacious suite and soak up the amazing views from the 11 storey windows, recharge your batteries under the powerful rain showers and relax on a king size bed.

Forget hailing taxis or catching the Metro: the Sandman's location means a trip into town takes just a few minutes – even in the highest of heels.

Eat & drink

The hotel boasts the Shark Bar – a popular destination for party animals at the beginning of a big night though it has to be said the clientele is mainly men.

However, once a week Prosecco is half price so, ladies, form a queue. Eat burgers, steak, pasta and salad, which are made to a high standard.

The bar is staffed by expert mixologists and has a lively atmosphere although on a Newcastle United match day it's rammed to the rafters with football fans. And if a night on the tiles or a day in the shops has left you feeling tired, the hotel's room service is excellent or the suites come with their own plush kitchen areas so you can have a proper night in.

Football widows can while away 90 minutes (or much longer) in Newcastle's shops. The Eldon Square shopping destination is very close to the hotel meanwhile Newcastle city centre is undergoing some major refurbishing with The White Company, Reiss and Jack Wills all recently opening stand alone stores on Blackett Street.

Don't miss

For an extra VIP touch, take advantage of the hotel's essential shopping service. If you can't find a dish to tickle your taste buds on the hotel menu or you have a craving for something in particular, the Sandman's bespoke Waitrose ordering facility is ideal and also free of charge.
