The average adult will have travelled 18,324 miles before they hit 40 years old - that's a whopping seven times more miles covered than their parents.
A new study has found on average you will go on at least 13 holidays abroad and 21 in the UK before the age milestone.
The higher air miles is partly due to younger generations jet-setting to farther flung lands, where as older generations on average have only made it as far as Italy.
The research by British Airways Highlife Magazine, also shows that modern travellers are getting more adventurous by picking destinations where they can experience unknown cultures and sights.
Abigail Comber, head of brands at British Airways explained, "Knowledge is social currency and has given rise to a new type of traveller, looking to experience a place, not just visit it.
We are seeing a generational change where children, teenagers and young adults are travelling further than their parents; experiencing new cultures and different ways of living."
40 years ago, most adults would only have gone on five holidays abroad, to destinations like Portugal, Turkey or Cyprus.
Brits are also exploring their homeland more, as the average family are going on six more UK breaks a year.
Compared to the bucket and spade beach breaks of older generations, 70% of adults now like to get out and see local sights instead of lounging on the beach, while 80% want to sample local cuisines.
