Verbier is part of the enormous four-valleys ski area with over 400 km of pistes, but what makes Verbier special ski-wise is its varied and extensive off-peak terrain. It's also well-known as the ski destination of choice of many celebrities. It has spectacular views and is a very lively resort with great nightlife (everything from brash nightclubs to sophisticated cocktail bars) and a young, cosmopolitan feel.

One of Verbier's coolest properties, it was built with rich London city boys in mind. It is run like a chalet-hotel (it sleeps 26) and can be taken as a whole or rented by the bedroom, per week, weekend, or midweek.
If staying as a couple, family, or in a group, you won't have to join strangers for dinner but eat, hotel-style, at separate tables. There's a 10-metre indoor pool, massage and beauty treatments. no14verbier.com
Drink like a Prince...
The Farm Club is a Verbier institution and the single most famous nightclub in the Alps – famous, that is, for stratospherically high prices, unforgiving doormen, and the wealth of its clientele.
After more than 30 years, it's fast approaching its sell-by date, but on Fridays and Saturdays they still queue up to get in here – and hey, you've got to go at least once, so you know what you're talking about when you rubbish it. And who knows, maybe you'll meet a rich Swiss widow, or a ludicrously wealthy German industrialist in there. hotelnevai.com/farm-club
The Farinet is actually two bars – the apres-ski venue at the front and the lounge bar at the back. The apres-ski bar comes into its own when one of two things happen – if the sun comes out and they open the big windows of the glass-sided bar onto the terrace, or if a good live band are playing a set in there.
It's hard to believe, but the lounge bar next door is completely different, and manages to be one of the coolest watering holes in the Alps. If you've met some hot chick in the Montfort, and you've persuaded her to go out on a date, this is where you bring her. Show's you're a grown up. hotelfarinet.com
Where to dine...
Pop-up restaurant Pot Luck at the Fairinet, is the place where Harry was pictured smooching this week – so if it's good enough for a royal PDA, it's good enough for us.
Luke Dale Roberts, South Africa's number one chef has come over from the Pot Luck Club in Cape Town and serves international culinary dishes based on Luke's years of well-travelled cooking.
La Table d'Adrien is one of Verbier's best fine-dining restaurants serving beautifully-presented food in a stylish chalet-style restaurant.
Highlights of the starters include foie gras and a warm lobster salad and main course include steamed seabass with shellfish and an entire roast poularde (a type of chicken specially reared for succulence) with truffles. chalet-adrien.com
