When you're very happy with the way things are

As you may all know, I became single again about 4/5 months ago.

Anyway, I've been having a good old think about my situation, and I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to get married or live with anyone.

I would like to have a loving LTR, sharing experiences, and doing things that most couples do together, but not with the goal of living under the same roof at some point in time.

My decision has a lot to do with my age.  I'm very settled in my home, love where I live, so much so that I cannot imagine that anything could be better than that.  I'd like someone to share my life with me, but not necessarily my home.

I think its quite normal to feel like that and there is nothing wrong with that....

However love works in strange ways and if you met the right guy you never know where it might lead you. Like you I could not imagine moving someone into my lovely home but having seen my sister meet a wonderful guy and move him in within a few month, no one was more shocked than me!

I think its good to enjoy what you have and by all means protect your happiness and home but I am just saying things change and you never know what is round the corner!

In an ideal world I would be rich enough to own a house next door to my ideal husband, or at very least separate bedrooms. I doubt I'll ever be able to achieve this, but think it would be wonderful!

I don't blame you and i've come to the same conclusion.. when I start dating again it will never end up with me living with them.. I don't think there is any need to share your space with a man.. you can still have a good relationship without doing that!

The one thing I have learned is never say never. I don't particulary want children, but I won't rule it out because you never know where life will lead you. I think it's fine to say 'I'm happy just where I am" but you should always keep an open mind just in case....

Agree with Megs.  If you're happy with the way things are now - great.  But you never know what is around the corner!  ;)

Open minds are best.

I can understand you way of thinkiing, when I was single for a year and living alone, I loved the space, the freedom of it and not having to share a single thing... however with the new bf, I could easily see us living together in the future. Love does change you, just go with the changes if they should happen.

My life has turned out the way I thought it would at age 15/16.

I always wanted what I have now - good job, nice house and a car.  Marriage and children was not something I ever wanted.

I am 45 now, and very set in my ways. Us old'uns don't adapt to change very well!

I feel the same. Since I've become single I've just recently started to enjoy the freedom of it all. I don't want marriage and babies, as for some reason the whole idea scares me. I have it in my head that when you have children your relationship is over - how weird is that!? I'm too used to hearing about husbands getting bored of their wives who are too tired after looking after the kids and stuff, and the husbands go elsewhere.
I even don't even like B&Q and DFS adverts as to me it just screams routine and that your life is over... I have issues lol.
But we should all just do what makes us happy, we might meet someone who completely changes our view!

I quite agree with you ... I'm 43 and have been married and divorced (more than once) I have brought up two great kids (now 19 & 21) who are quite grounded.  After my divorce, our  home was sold and divided.  When I bought the one I live in now I vowed never again would I be in a  situation where a  man could potentially make me homeless.  I would definitely enter into a  loving LTR but live together ... nah, not for me.  Neither would I get married again and any guy who came on the scene would be made aware  of my feelings from the  outset.  I'm just so set in my ways now, having been on my own for over 7 years, I know so much more about what I want from life.

I know the adage .. never say never ... which I won't but as time marches on, you just get more and more set in your ways.
