Hi everyone

I've spent a few hours on the report - I think the obvious problem is that the English grammar and the lack of guidance from the college. I feel like I'm rushing things and I'm unhappy with it.

Like someone said the tutors at college should have been doing their job during term time.

If the problems were picked up during term time it would have been easier to ask the special needs office to get help as back up support.

My problem is that I don't know if the special needs staff are available during the college summer holidays to help me.

I am going to try and do as much as I can before the deadline but it is a big mountain to climb as its not easy to get support during the hols. The internal person is off on leave this week for a month.

If the worst comes to the worst - I may have to defer a year depending on the report conclusion and graduate in 2010. Its not ideal but I feel that I have tried my best and my standards are not good enough for the tutors as they are not aware of my needs. At least if I pass the exam in June I don't have to go to any classes.

is it on a computer? can you not run spelling and grammar checks? is there noone you know who's good at spelling and grammar who could have a look at it for you? i've been writing academic essays this year and i have 3 people who i ask to check them over for me as i know i have a strange way of expressing myself from time to time. only when it's been thoroughly checked by others and spelling and grammar checked by the computer do i hand it in.

Hi Ceammi

Yes my word software has a grammar corrector - that lesson certainly has been learnt.

I had to take a break otherwise I was driving myself round the bend with all the goings on this weekend.

Purpleflower isn't there someone who can check the grammar for you, computers miss quite a lot. I'm sure a friend would help?

Miss Megs

I have a friend conversant with English grammar - in fact we are going on a coach trip this week.

I will ask him to check it on the way as the journey is quite long.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had a feeling that computers are not perfect.

Miss Megs

Just for you it is AAT - I have done all 5 exams without any probs unless I have a nasty surprise this August for the last one.

The report is like a degree dissertation. I have to pass that as well in order to graduate.

Woo hoo..........
I should have asked sooner!!

In order to become an AAT accredited delivery centre, the college has to undertake to provide a suitable environment, with tutors who have both accountancy qualifications and assessor qualifications. The AAT will also have visited the college to inspect the facilities, and the accreditation, once given, is not then forever. Inspectors will visit every 3 years (probably - it might be 5, but I doubt it) to ensure that provision is still up to their standards.

The AAT (www.aat.org.uk) would be very interested to hear that the staff at your college are not competent, and are in danger of costing you your qualification at least for this year.

I would ring them, there's a section for students on their website, and ask - as if butter wouldn't melt in your mouth - whether there is any way you can have an extension to their deadlines, because having been told you'd passed your final assessment, the internal has said it is not acceptable becase your tutor was not aware of assessment standards, and your pass has been retracted with only a very few days to go. Then stand back and watch the fun........:-)

PS This looks like the section you want.....

Hi Billie Jay

Thank you very much.

Right I think that the problem lies with the incompetent tutor who passed me - I don't think he has had a visit from AAT as hes new. I've seen  outside assessors in my classes.

My college is making a very big mistake in giving him the assessing job. What a nightmare.

Anyway my college has put back my deadline until August as long as they receive the report by the time my results are due.

I will sort out AAT tomorrow - it is worth trying them for advice.I'll sleep on it and you've been a big help.

Hi PF, I'm a bit late coming to your thread, sorry. And I know you say you have a friend checking your grammar for you but if you need someone else to have a look, I'd be happy to as I am an English teacher and have taught TEFL too so had to brush up lots on my grammar for that. Let me know and good luck with this. You can and will do it Smile
