Hi :)

We're hoping to go on holiday to Alcudia in september, it will be our 1st holiday abroad with our daughter.( She'll be 15 months then) We are a little reluctant to take a bus transfer as it takes so long apparently, and were thinking of getting a taxi transfer.

Has anyone done this themselves? How much did it cost and how long did it take??

Also any recommendations for accomadation would be good!! All inclusive, within walking distance to the resort centre and beach.( Dont want much do I!!:p )

Thanks x

I personally wouldn't recommend Alcudia in Sept as we went there when the children were younger and it was far too busy for little ones.
The beaches were overcrowded and so were all the pools and people were putting out their towels at 4am in the morning.
It was over priced to say the least. and more hyped up for Germans than British.

We've been to Puerto Pollensa (just up the road from Alcudia) a few times in October, and it was really quite quiet.

Took the bus to Alcudia and it wasn't what you'd call busy either. Never made it to the beach as the weather wasn't that great, but there was only a handful of people in restaurants etc, though it might be different in September.

We were going to go the last week in Sept, hoping it would be a bit quieter with the kids being back at school. Do you think this would be the case, or will everyone else have the same idea as us:confused:

What are you aiming for?

If it's a modern, more or less purpose-built resort (old town excepted) with waterpark, then Alcudia's for you. Have to say I found it a bit characterless and bleak.

IMO Puerto's got more character - only one big hotel, several smaller traditional hotels and several apartment blocks. Enough small shops and restaurants to keep most people happy for a fortnight, though if the weather's bad it's a bit of a struggle thinking of things to do.

Were looking for a family ( well, baby!) friendly resort, plenty to do, all inclusive within walking distance to the resort centre and beach. Would Alcudia fit the bill or can anyone recommend anywhere??

A taxi transfer from the airport to Alcudia will take about an hour - remember if you have a coach transfer on a package, it will be longer!

I have always liked Alcudia, so much so that I went 8 consecutive years!
The first time I went with my sister and her little boy who was nearly two and we found it absolutely ideal for children. We went out of season, but the opposite end to you (ie. june) and it was really not too busy at all.
The beach is perfect for little ones, with the sea temperature being that of a warm bath! It is very shallow for a long way out meaning that it is very safe for toddlers to dip their toes in. The sand is white and fine.
You can stay along the beach, out of the main town, which is a bit busy with the normal McDonalds etc. It is easy to get into the town by bus if you should want to go at any time.
If you are all inclusive then you won't have to worry much about eating out, but there are plenty of choices should you fancy a change.
I have stayed at three different properties over the years. Two are still in the Thomson brochure. You are after an all inclusive package which is available at the one called the Platja d'Or. Sadly, I have just looked in the brochure (I work in a travel agency!) and have just found out that they don't book children under 16 (doh!). The other hotel (my fave) is called the Condesa de la Bahia, but that is only available on a half board basis. Fantastic location, great pool..couldn't fault it!
The final hotel I have stayed at is the Delfin Azul (in the Skytours brochure)......this is also a good hotel but is located the wrong side of a busy road to the beach. Unfortunately, only available on half board basis.
Of course, there are loads more different hotels in the area, some of which may offer all inclusive.

Alcudia is definitely somewhere that I would take my family of two girls!

I hope you find this useful, if you need any more info or help, then just let me know and I will try and help.

Poggy:)

Thanks Poggy.I've looked into the Delfin Marina as it is available all incvlusive through different tour operators ( teletext holidays !!). I wasn't aware of the busy road though.Funny how they didn't mention that ey!!

What was your experince of the transfers? Did you take the coach or taxi?

Aludia...again!

I have always taken the coach transfer. The resort is right across the other side of the island to the airport that you arrive into, so it is quite a haul! The duration can also vary, of course, depending upon how many hotels you drop off at en route. As you will have just had a flight with your little girl (who looks gorgeous btw!), then it might be expecting a great deal of the poor little mite to sit still on a coach journey for at least another hour!
I would be tempted to take a taxi for sanitys sake. I am sorry that I don't know how much this is, never having done it. You pay for the resort transfers these days anyway so by not having those you will have a little to put towards a taxi transfer.
The Delfin Marina hotel has been built since I stopped going so I can't tell you a lot about that either I am afraid. The road was not particularly difficult to cross and something in the distant corners of my mind tells me that they may have built an underpass now, so I wouldn't let that put me off too much. I have just done a search for some reviews for you and none of them mention an underpass so maybe I making that up.....LOL:think:
Here is the link to the reviews though and they all sound great...

Good luck planning and let me know if you have any more questions and I will try to help.

Bye for now

Poggy :)
