Seeing as there seems to be loads of threads on Handbag about the different contraceptive pills we are all using, I thought I would start a thread that can summarise everyone's experiences with their pill.

I know different pills affect different people differently, but I figure it would be useful to know what other Baggers think!

So - you need to write a 'review', including comments about your emotional and/or physical well-being. You can include current and/or past brands.

Here's mine:

1) Microgynon

Skin - fine
Periods - heavy, painful. Spotting if I continued packets.
Emotionally - very teary, moody, no change to sex drive.

2) Diannette

Skin - best it's ever been, slightly dry though.
Periods - light, not painful. No spotting if I continued packets.
Boobs - a bit sore.
Emotionally - fine, but decrease in sex drive.

3) Cilest (what I'm currently on, but want to change)

Skin - spotty and greasy (hair greasy too)
Periods - quite heavy, bloated.
Emotionally - moody, irritable, ok sex drive.
Eyes (!) - dry and itchy!

Only ever been on Dianette (originally went on it for skin/acne but now use it for both skin and contraception)

Skin - perfect. Occasionally get one or two spots but people always comment on how good my skin is

Boobs - sometimes a bit sore. Not sure if Dianette has affected their size as I started taking it when I was 16 so my boobs were still developing

Period - no problems. Always fairly light and no spotting when I run two packs together

Emotionally - fine but can sometimes be a bit teary. Has also maybe decreased my sex drive but again it's hard to tell as I've been on it so long - nearly 11 years - so I can't remember what I'm like without it (god that's kind of scary!) :o

Am starting to get concerned about the saftey of being on it long term (e.g. risk of liver damage etc) so am considering changing brands - from what I've read on HB I think Marvelon could be a good alternative. However, I'm terrified of skin going bad again plus potential nightmare side effetcs of being on a different Pill so maybe it's a case of better the devil you know! :D

My GP said they were recalling all patients on Dianette because of the higher risk of thrombosis and that it should only be used for skin problems and for not much longer than 6 mths at a time...

The quest for the miracle pill goes on...

Boobs - not sore but feel a bit bigger just before period time
Periods - very light, very short, very regular, hurrah!
Emotionally - no PMT

I love the mini-pill!

Loestrin (either 20 or 30 but i cant remember which one off the top of my head!)

Ive been on it on 2 occassions and the first time i got break through bleeding for about 6 months, and the second time round (which was about a year later,

Boobs - we a bit sore
Skin - Ever so slighty greasier (but i didnt view this as a bad thing as my skin was very dry normally)
Periods - a lot lighter (again quite a good thing)
Everything else - fine, no real change at all!

Dianette - The only pill I've been on - on my 3rd pack now.

Skin- Was really bad before, now not yet perfect, but a hell of a lot better and can look near-flawless with good makeup!

Boobs - Seem to swell up a cup size, but 'deflate' on my 7 day break  ! Occasionally a bit tender.

Periods - Lighter, but unfortunately still quite painful :(

Emotionally - As far as I can tell, no effect. I'm still the same!

I've also got a Q about dianette - is it ok to take 2 packs back to back? I'm aware that it's ok with the pill generally, but bit worried wth Dianette cos of all the scares about it. Will it be ok to do so occasionally? It's just my period is due right over xmas, and I don't want the pain!!

Hope someone can help with that!

I'm concerned with all this about only being allowed on Dianette for 6 months. I've been on it nearly 3 already, and I'm feeling great. I don't want to change pills and have my skin rubbish again!!

xx :D

I used to take 3 packs in a row and then have a break and never had any problems... it's probably worth mentioning that to your GP though.
