I've bought contact lenses online for the past 6 months as it works out half the price, but the thing is I'm due a check up at the opticians and I'm dreading it as I've been getting lenses online and not through the opticians.

Is anyone else doing this or know anyone who does?  I don't know whether to just go and tell them I buy them online (if they would see me still) or whethe to go to a different opticians.  It seems like a trivial thing to worry about, but I'm a bit of a worrier and I'm worried about leaving it too long Frown

I don't think it matters. I expect they'd try to persuade you to buy lenses from them because they want the business but you're not obliged. Just tell them it's because it's cheaper! If they won't see you, I'm sure another opticians would.

Gosh, no need to worry at all. They provide a service that you require. I used to buy my lenses online, but would go to specsavers for my check ups. They charge 20 quid for a check up I think.

I have now gone back to specsavers for my lenses too, as I had some issues with my lenses and didn't want to pay each time. I worked out the 20 quid spread out over each month didn't really make the online ones any cheaper.

I wouldnt worry at all. I buy glasses online (Im still a little wary about contacts for some reason) but I go for my checkups at Vision Express. They know I havent bought with them for a while now but as my prescription has only slightly changed then havent forced me to buy. I say Im short of cash right now!

My prescription is really high, VE charge me £300 average for lenses and frames (as lenses need to be thinned). The last pair I bought online cost me £40!!

Dont menion it to them and you should be fine. Plenty of other places if they make a fuss.

You don't have to think twice. Just do there and tell them that you like buying online. And that is cheaper as well which is the real reason. They will definitely do the check ups. But if they don't then go to a different optician.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that opticians can't legally make you buy your lenses/specs from them, so just get your test and prescription from them and you should be fine :)
