I feel the need to rant, I'm sick of every day putting on the news and hearing about more of our troops being killed.  Then to hear the more recent news of them being killed by a police out there whom they were training!!!  I'm so annoyed, I don't actually know anyone out there but I really feel for the families of those who are out there!  Gordon Brown says that he's not pulling any troops out or stopping any training, but I can't help thinking that if it were HIS family out there he would soon be pulling them out and bringin them home!!!!

Sorry rant over, feel much better now :D

i was watching GMTV this morning, and just thinking theres no easy end to this. Part of me thinks we have a duty to see this to the end - i dont know much about what would happen if we withdrew, but i assume a civil war would ensue? but then the other part of me thinks that the people suffering and losing their lives from the UK shouldnt have to suffer any more losses. We're cornered.

the only fair solution is to send the politicians themselves to fight and do the job that they have forced on the troops.

My son's currently in training for a tour of Afghan in the new year and I am dreading it .. I know others who have boys out there at the moment and every time I hear there's been a death, my heart sinks further!!!  When my son's out there  and and there's been anouther  soldier killed, everyone  who knows us will hold their breath and pray it's not my son and for what ..........?

The politicians explain the country would go to rack and ruin if we weren't there to help ... but why do we need to help?  If it's because we are involved in NATO ... I don't see many of the other countries also involved in NATO out there?  Our troops live in disgraceful conditions,  are ill equipped and putting their lives on the line for what seems to be something that will never end.   If it's to "stop" terrorism .. then it's not working, our boys are just being killed and till continued to do so indefinately :-(

I've already told my son, god forbid anything happens to him, I certainly won't be praising the government in this fight ... I will be on my soapbox demanding to know why we are sending our young lads to die for a cause we can't identify but has been wrapped up with a "Terrorism" tag!

I feel sorry for the soldiers because no-one really knows why they're still out there and that makes it all the more tragic when you hear these things on the news. A friend I went to uni with comes from an 'army town' and her ex and lots of her friends are in the army. She lost a friend out there a while ago as well as other friends seriously injured and she's still not over it. I can't imagine how hard it must be to have lost someone and to still see people you love going back out there.

I'm not close to anyone in the army but I know a few people I went to school with who are so when the news comes on or there's pictures of those soldiers I check it's not them.

Doitagain I agree with you. I have no idea what they're fighting for other than 'terrorism'.

I don't really understand the war anymore apart from that fact that they went there for terrorism. Everyday it seems to be getting a bit worse with more soldiers dying...but I have very strong views on what the army is meant to do and get quite upset when people complain about the troops being there. For me personally joining the army comes with risks and that involves sorry to say getting killed, it must be dreadful watching the news when you have some over in combat but it's a chance that they've took willingly. Joining the army isn't a case of they get a load of training then thats it and I think some people forget that. I was watching the news about a month ago and some guy said that Tony Blair had blood on his hands but to be honest I don't think he has...they have made improvements in afghanistan but the country was so badly damaged etc it's probably really hard to see where. Sorry I'm going to stop now because I could talk for years about it lol. x

Sheesh :)

We were talking about this today at work. I come from an army town so there's loads of us who either know someone or know of someone who is out there.

I can understand why people want to pull our troops out because there doesn't seem to be a proper full reason to why they are there but a friend's boyfriend who is in Afghanistan told her that if they were pulled out now, for them personally it would all be worthless and a waste and I can see his point.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here ... being ex-army myself.  You are trained to be a  soldier not trained for warfare.  You know, when you sign up, there's a  chance  you will be called upon to fight  but people don't join up TO fight.  When you are about to deploy to afghan - then you go on intensive training to fight ... but still you don't "actually" know what to expect.

Our troops are being sent out to a  war zone, barely out of basic training with substandard equipment and no idea of the reality of war.

I wish they would pull our guys out.. i personally can't see us getting anywhere fighting over there. Bush n Blair just went steaming in with no real plan and now we're stuck there forever more cos nobody knows what the answer is.

My bf was out there last year and is going back out this time next year. Im dreading it. It's so easy for Brown to say we have to stay there but as someone else said - he's not gonna lose a loved one. I really don't think he gives two shits about our troops.

I'm sure he'd soon pull the troops out if he had relatives out there.......
