Has anyone tried this?  Where you cut a hole in the top of a watermelon and fill it with a bottle of vodka.  Think you have to do it in stages rather than all at once!

Am craving watermelon and thought a voddie sodden one might be rather lovely.

kinsk you know my thoughts on fruit.  The bastard food group is only fit to be mixed with alcohol.
I'm all for watermelon mixed with vodka.  Although you need to use a bloody good, clean vodka to get the best out of it.  Something like a good Polish vodka or Grey Goose would be perfect for this sort of drink.  Something without a strong smell.  Grey Goose wins every time for me.

My only advice would be to not try it with a honeydew melon. It doesn't work.

I'm sure I've seen JO do it on one of his programmes - think it was one of the Naked Chef series.

I think that may have been where I saw it, was a few years ago though, but the idea has been lurking in the back of my mind since then!  Weather changed so didn't get round to doing it in the end.  Infact didn't do very much last weekend other than sleep Embarassed felt really ropey and just absolutely exhausted.

Saw your other post, good news about MrAB being home more.

We have a watermelon lurking in the fridge and MrS wants to inject it with vodka.   He's had it before and gives it the thumbs up kinsk :)

Yes Jamie did this in one of his early shows, I've tried it and it's fab!

. Basically, you just made a hole in the watermelon (an apple corer is perfect for doing this) and pour in about 1/4 of a bottle of vodka. Wrap in cling film (with the whole at the top, obviously ) and put in the fridge. After a few hours, repeat the process and keep doing so until you're used the whole bottle of vodka (normally takes about 24-48 hours to absorb it all). When all the vodka is in, leave it for at least another 12 hours to make sure it's fully sunnk in then slice and munch!
