I used to get comments all the time about how huge I was but then again I was huge

I remember one woman said to me in a jokey way once "you're big, what have you got triplets in there?". I just replied "no just twins". The look on her face was a picture. Used to get on my nerves when people who knew I was having twins used to say how big I was. I used to just reply "well I am carrying 2 babies"

I've had 'Oooooh, you're so small', which is a bit annoying (usually coupled with 'are you eating?'). And 'Oh, where's your bump?' I mean, I was never a large lass so what do people expect, that I've doubled in size? I find it a bit personal. I mean, would they go up to someone and say: 'Blimey, that's a huge/small belly/arse/chin you've got there, luv,' while copping a feel?!

I suppose they are just trying to make conversation but I like people saying things, like 'Oh, that's a nice bump' (without going on about the size) and 'congratulations' or just simply asking how I am.

If someone commented on my bump saying it was big, I'd be so tempted to say: 'You've got a really big gob.'

Well, my bump was flipping mahoosive by the end, so not to have commented on it would have been like ignoring the white elephant in the room!

I figure people are just making convo, and pregnancy and babies seems to get people worked up into such a state, that you can't avoid it.  It's almost as if the bump is independent of you - the comments really are just about the bump and not meant with malice.  I know that's not much comfort but once baby is out and you're back to your pre-preg self, it will all be a distant memory. :o)

Sadly once you're pregnant you seem to become public property.. with my last pregnancy I got very large due to excess water and I tired of the comments 3 months before he was due.  One girl I had to avoid in the end as I felt close to thumping her one... it was EVERY time I saw her she would go on about how big I was and how the baby was sure to be here by christmas (he was born in feb).  Majorly irritating!

I make comments on people's belly (if I know them) and I hope I've never upset anyone by accident!I do stop myself touching them, even though I always desperately want to.

I find pregnant bellies so amazing, and my hormones always react in a way that make me want to stroke it!

I always mean with it love though!

I know what you mean ChocolateJo. I've never touched a pregnant stomach before and do have quite a curiosity about it. I mean I just find it so hard to believe that there are little babies in there!

Saying that I would never think it would be okay to touch someone else's body, or even to ask really! If someone said to me "its kicking - look feel it" then I would, but for gods sake it is their body you would never try and touch someone's belly who wasn't pregnant!

If I do comment on someone's pregnant appearance it would usually just be to say that it suits them / they look very well. There is something so attractive about pregnancy, its just so feminine. As they say, an everday miracle!

Why do people lose tact when it comes to pregnancy though?... It's like they just see you as a baby-making machine or something! I mean, pregnant women do have feelings..

I try to be careful when talking to pregnant women; the most I tend to venture is 'When's it due?', 'Do you know the sex yet?', or 'Have you thought of any names?'; I'd never go 'Oh my god, you're massive, are you expecting triplets?!' (lol)

I think the tact thing follows right through pregnancy and into parenthood though if you ask me; people seem to feel they have the right to comment on others decisions when it comes to pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, co-sleeping etc even if their opinion has not been asked for. This is even more the case for people who are already parents too IMO.
