I saw the latest Harry Potter flim last night, and absolutely loved it! It's funny, dark and much better than the 1st ,2nd ,3rd ,4th and 5th films.

Have you seen it? What did you think? Was it better than the others?

Saw it on Friday and I loved it.  (OH said it was too long, but what does he know!)  I thought that the screenplay was brilliant - it cut a lot of the side scenes that work in the book so it was left as a good, strong through story in the film. [SPOILER (highlight text to see)....   eg a lot (ie most) of the Tonks/Lupin story was left out which would have slowed it down too much, Luna finds him on the Hogwart Express, not Tonks and, if you like Neville Longbottom, blink and you will miss him in this one !!!!  ....... ]

I have always thought that HBP was the most boring of the Potter books because it had to set up so much back story to prepare for the climax in the last book so I was amazed (and delighted!) that the most boring book (IMHO) has been the most exciting film.

The only thing that I was dissapointed with was that we went to see it at a big Odeon which has a 3D/IMAX screen - the 3D was STUNNING (I was genuinly ducking as things came out of the screen and the picture clarity was amazing).  The only thing was that it only lasted for the 1st 15 - 20 minutes of the film before going back to normal 2D images - the picture was still great and so was the sound but it was a bit of a let down after the thrill of the start.  It didn't seem to change back at a particularly relevant point (I would have definitely thought they would have tried to put the quidditch match in 3D - it would have been fantastic!!!

It was a particular let down because we had paid a LOT of money for our seets (twice the price of normal seats).  When we were talking about it afterward, OH was wondering whether they decided to put it into that format late and ran out of time/money.  They can do a whole live action film because, apparently, the whole of the new Star Trek was in 3D and that format has been a great hit.

Can't wait for the Deathly Hallows now, and if they put the whole of that in 3D - WOW!!!!!!!!!!

love

Went to see this last week.  I haven't read any of the books, but love the films.  I thought this one was very good, I am ready to see how it all ends now though!

It's a boy!

oh my, did i see the same film as everyone else?!

This film is the worst one of them all (although the acting has significantly improved) It's like the director hasn't even bothered to read the book!!! There's no attention to detail, things happen that don't even happen in the book....as i don't know to cover spoilers i won't say the exact detail but there's definitely one major part of the film that has no relevance to the book and absolutely makes you wonder how they're going to do the first few chapters of the Deathly Hallows!!

I've left the cinema feeling angry and highly disappointed. The script is laid out infront of you, it can't be that hard to scrap the minor things, not add things in and keep to the facts in the book!!

I do wonder how JK could've approved this film seeing as it hardly follows the book. Of course i understand that directors have to cut things out but don't add things in that are major!!

xx

Sassy - its not just you! I was immensely dissapointed with this film. I love the HP books and was looking forward to seeing the little quirky things being put in but LOADS was missed out, and we didn't even have the battle at the end! I've heard the directors reason was because he "didnt want people to confuse it with the final battle in the 7th film" - ermm, its a completely different film, we aren't idiots! They messed around with lots of things unnecessarily and didn't show bits which are gonna have some meaning to make the 7th film make sense.

I'm re-reading the book at the moment and theres SO much that they could've put in. IMO they paid too much attention to the romance side of things. Harry certaintly wouldn't have been flirting with a waitress (not in the book whatsoever) a couple of weeks after his godfather dying.

What a let down!

Oh thank goodness someone feels the same as me!!!

I read on IMDB about the final battle what you just said that because the deathly hallows has a final battle they didn't want two ending the same...ehh...i think it's quite essential seeing what actually happens at the end of the HBP!!

I really wish they'd concentrated less on the relationships (although Lavender Brown was hilarious!!!) and featured more memories giving us more of an idea about Voldemort seeing as it's so essential following the prophecy, even the jokes that Dumbledore makes regarding their personal relationships didn't make sense seeing as it wasn't even mentioned in the book. That nonsense in the middle at the Burrow was just ridiculous and completely unnecessary!!

I've just finished listening to the audio books (which are brilliant for anyone who's interested!!!) before i saw the film which is why it was so fresh in my mind.

Highly highly disappointed :(

I agree with every word of this post.

The film was hugely disappointing and obviously a filler before Deathly Hallows. Voldemort and Snape should have had a much bigger role as a build up to the finale, rather than the romantic dross that the director focused on. I would rate this 5/10. I hope Deathly Hallows gets the proper attention that it deserves.
