bloody scared the beejezus out of myself today, I know people say it's good to push your boundaries, but today was taking teh proverbial. I still dont think the adrenalin rush has settled yet. I actually ended up hyperventillating with fear, my whole body shaking and my heart racing so fast my chest hurt for ages afterwards.

I went for what should have been a fairly easy hill walk, about 8 miles or so up a valley. it involved a scramble down a few scree slopes and some shinning up iced waterfalls to start with, then it got really hairy!, a sheer, incredibly steep, loose scree climb up an almost vertical valley wall, with no proper equipment, no rope, axes or safety gear and as it got higher, the scree got looser and the handholds dissapeared to be replaced with sheet ice. I was absofeckinglutely terrified, but at a hundred feet up or so had passed the point of no return - it was climb or fall to almost certain *injuries* below. A few times the surface gave way starting minor landslips and leaving me clinging on to an almost smooth surface like spiderwoman. Now I know what real adrenalin is like. It was a really stupid thing to do now in those conditions looking back at it, but at least I made it to the top even though I froze a few times with fear and exhaustion as I'm not a natural climber and it was a long long way up from the valley floor, a good few hundred feet or so I'd say. Thankfully for my poor heart it was a fairly easy walk back down via an old sheep track. Will post some pics on my photo thread later. :cmeek:

Be careful!!!!!....I used to go out onto the yorkshire moors often which can be very dangerous at times so I can sort of relate, a bit....it sounded really scarey just reading it....do be careful.....pleeeeeeeaaaaassseeeeee....................

Bloody hell Jugs, thank goodness you are ok!

I did weights yesterday, worked myself really hard and come the end of it I felt like I was going to throw up :cmdunno:

Juggler - I'm very glad to hear you're OK - please be careful, my OH was climbing in the highlands last year on his own without equipment and had a close shave and an old friend fell in the Lakes about 10 years ago and it was one of those awful ones where there "just happened to be a fell-runner cross doctor" passing by but she ended up in hospital for 6 weeks. :(

I rode last night and did weights this morning before work - battling through the snow to get to the gym. Still had some DOMS from Friday so didn't go too hard on my legs this morning.

:o thanks for your concern girls. I'm fine, I just realised that really I know my limits, and that was too much for me. I'm not a professional climber, and I'm sure a pro would probably not have taken that route up the wall. I'm glad I did it though as I know not to try anything that daft again. one of the photos I attached shows my mate at near the top of the scramble and just how far up from the valley floor it was, it didnt look that bad from the bottom! Think is we often remark about seeing poorly equipped climbers/walkers going up in jeans and t-shirts then getting into trouble, and how we know the mountains better than that and yet we could very easily have become the next clients for the rescue helicopter ourselves by way of our own stupidity:o :cmdunno:

having a break from excercise this week, have done rather a lot over the xmas holidays, back to work now to give my poor bones a rest and work my brains instead.

Crikey Juggler, that's pretty scary stuff!! I'm glad you're ok!

I dipped in and out of the diary last year, but I vow to do better this year! I haven't been able to get to the gym so far this year, but went for a long walk over the weekend, and I've got my first session back tonight. I managed to go quite a lot over the Christmas break so tonight shouldn't be too much of a shock to the system. But this year's theme is "must try harder" especially as I'm off to Thailand in March so need to get by bikini body back pretty sharpish!! :p

Happy New Year everyone :)

First gym session of the year today! Did 45 mins on the treadmill, 20 mins on the cross trainer and a few upper body weights. Found it really hard!

Swam this morning, it was great! Yesterday lunchtime the pool was rammed but this morning my lane was empty. Wooha. When I get my bike back next wk I'm going to cycle to and from work instead of walk which will give me more swimming time in the mornings. Yeh :hop:

Got back to the gym last night, and it wasn't as busy as I was expecting which was a nice suprise, I didn't do so well with the old cardio though probably due to still having the tail-end of a cold, and probably still getting over all the celebrations over Christmas etc!

Unfortunately, I woke up in the middle of the night with a twinge in the middle of my back, it feels a bit better this morning but still not quite right, I will take it very easy at the gym tonight, no high impact stuff, and see how I go.

Don't know if it counts, but I did an 8mile walk (altogether) yesterday. 4miles to work and 4miles back.
