I currently use trevor sorbie long hair curl cream (the other one is just not the same) on my wet hair then just finish off with a little more cream mixed with glossing cream to add shine...it seems to work and i have fine, frizzy hair

I am need some new shampoo...might try the body shop range though :)

My hair is fine and frizzy too eve so might have to try the trevor sorbie cream! I definitely recommend the body shop honey shampoo and conditioner - really moisturising without making curls go lank.

Is it the shampoo and conditioner that you have been using by john frieda?

Yeah I like the scrunching jelly by umberto. I also find the john frieda dream curls spray to be really good at taming the frizz :)

yeah the shampoo and condtitioner. I tried the sream curls spray once didnt like it much. but i find that i cant use sprays on my hair, prefer gels or creams so i can put it exactly where i need to if you get what i mean...

I have tried numerous different lotions and potions and still go back to the same stuff. It's a case of less is def more. Funny thing is people dont believe my hair is fine cause it's so bouncy and curly yet the minute I get the straightners out poof not a bouncy in sight lol.

Hmm was thinking of using the tigi dumb blonde shampoo anyone used it before??
though still tempted with the body shop one....and my supply is running out fast.

I currently use dream hair shampoo and love it but have been using it for years and fancy a change though the bottle looks fab in my bathroom lol

oh decisions decisions lol

That's the same as me! When it's curly I have loads of hair, so big and bouncy that I have to get it thinned out loads at the hairdressers. So if it's straight there's so little hair there!

I have thick curly hair long, and have been usung Garnier curl mousse for a while now. It works really well on the first day it does sometimes get a little stiff but nothing that a good dry scrunch cant fix. However the next day, it wears out, but still good enough to wear in a pony tail. When I was a student, I used to get a trim with Vidal Sason's students 4.50 cut the instructors always seem to take a special interest in my hair as they loved it and were always checking the students did it right. They used a VS serum which was fantastic and kept hair fab for upto 5 days it was quite expensive though! For the last few years i've been trimming it myself as i cant bring myself to trust anyone since i had a bad experience of lopsided trim with another hair dresser

I cant really wear it down all the time as it gets too big and I'm thinking of a shorter style - a little below shoulder length (its currently just below the waist). Does any one know a really good hairdresser who i can trust to give a me a cut that i can leave hair down. And recomment a product that will keep for 2-3 days.

Hello all...

From a complete newbie I'd just like to say thanks for all these tips... I'm going to try and give them a go in re-educating my previously wavy / loose curly hair back into its old habits after years of straightening etc... straight hair is so boring (and takes ages to sort out the kinks in the morning when I'd rather be asleep) :(

All these tips are great.
As a curly girl I'll give you mine too:
I wash and condition with the Elvive frizz range (orange bottle) which always does the trick leaving hair manageable and shiny but less frizz.
After that I give my curls a little helping hand with Panten Curl mousse. Squeeze a dolop on your hands and scrunch in from the end to the root of the hair. I've found this helps to define the curls and helps them to last longer.
I then leave it to dry till it's nearly dry but not crunchy from the mousse then defuse. I can't live without this little attachment on the end of my hair dryer. My hair is quite thick but short to this really helps to liven it up and add the volume I want. And drys it quickly otherwise I would be waiting all day if I left it to dry naturally!
If a little more help is needed between washes I suggest curling creams. They work quite well on dry hair if you rub a very small amount between your palms and scrunch like the mousse. They also 'dirty up' your hair a bit to get rid of the post -dryer fly-aways. I use the Curl Expertise from Superdrug due to my student budget but I'm sure there are much better ones on the market!

Hope this helps curly girls.
x

Growing curly hair?

Hi all, am trying to grow my (very) curly hair and was wondering how often you get yours cut if trying to grow it. I am stuck in the problem of if I get it cut regularly it doesn't get any longer but if I don't it gets really big and bushy! I tried leaving it an extra month (normally get it cut every 2 months) but it's just not getting anywhere so was thinking of trying a bit longer.

How do you all manage to grow yours?! :D

I don't have mine cut very often i have to say. Maybe once or twice a year? When I straighten it I notice that the ends need trimming because they are a bit uneven but when it's curly it's fine. I find that hairdressers tend to lop off too much. I have just found a fabby hairdresser though that can trim my hair while totally keeping the length. He takes milimetres off and it looks fab!

Thanks Serendipity, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and live with it going all big and bushy for a while until it grows a bit! That's what I did many years ago when I grew it before and the ends got very dry but I think I understand better how to look after it now so hopefully I can do some damage limitation! I really want long hair!
