Hello! :)
I'm a bit confused about rose hip oil - does anyone use it? Is it the same as rosa mosqueta oil? Also, is it suitable for use under eyes? I read on one site it is but then on some others, it doesn't mention this as a possible use? If anyone uses it for this, what do you think of it? ... sorry for all the questions!

Thanks!
xx

It's the same as rosehip seed oil, which I think is different from rosehip oil. The seed oil is brilliant for healing and nourishing as it's a natural retinoic acid (vitamin A). To be honest it wouldn't be my choice for under eyes as it's a bit heavy - hazelnut would probably be better as it's very light and too much weight there will cause the skin to sag a little. You could mix 10% in and then you are still getting the benefits.

I've been using Rosehip oil as part of my skincare routine for about 18months or so now & it's fabulous for my super dry skin:)

You can get different types of Rosehip oil from different regions & the Rose Mosqueta from Chile is widely considered one of the best.;)
I've tried a range of different Rosehip Oils & I have now settled on this one & repeat order it because of the good price & excellent quality.
I get it from www.essentialoilsonline.co.uk

http://www.essentialoilsonline.co.uk/acatalog/rosehip_seed_oil.html

You can either use it by itself or incorporate into your own blend of oils.
I use mine over the eye area as well:)

I make my own blend of face oils by incorporating the following

Squalane (olive derived), Organic Rosehip, Red Raspberry Seed Oil & Pomegranate.

If you are going to blend a combination of oils, just do a small amount initially, say 15ml, then you can see what % of each oil suits your skin type.

My skin is very dry & dehydrated & perimenopausal:o so the blend that suits me best is 50% squalane, 30% rosehip & 10% each of raspberry seed & pomegranate.

I get all of my oils from essential oils online with the exception of the Squalane, which I purchased from www.ofasimplenature.co.uk

I use my oils 2x a day, just a few drops & massage into your skin. If your skin feels oily after, you are using too much! I also find that using a hyaluronic acid serum after helps take the oils down into the epidermis better & makes my skin feel more hydrated for longer. Your moisturiser goes on last to seal everything in:)

I keep the unused portions of the bottles in the fridge & blend my oils into dark bottles as they can be damaged from the sunlight & go rancid.

You are probably best to start out with one oil that you really would like to try, say the Rosehip, & see how you get on with it, then go from there.
Try & stick with the Organic & unrefined ones as they contain the most nutrients.:)
Good Luck

Mylittlefairy, u are a fountain of knowledge! Thanks for coming on here and sharing it all with us! I saw your post about Hyaluronic acid on the protect and perfect serum thread.

I discovered the following for HA:
http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/Hyaluronic_Acid.html

I've contacted them to find out their price. 1kg is a lot, so I might just order the Prescriptive one you had mentioned on the other thread.

How do you make up your serum using the powder?

I bought a bottle of rosehip oil ages ago. I used it on my face and eye area. I didn't like it because it felt so heavy and didn't seem to absorb into the skin, so I didn't buy it after it finished. After reading this thread, I now realise that I was probably applying too much. I want to use it neat. How do I apply it?

I am 25. So my goal is to protect and prevent aging rather than reverse. I have acne on my forehead and chin, so I need to take care. I have dry skin. This is my plan for night-time: apply rosehip oil, followed by HA serum, followed by moisturiser. I want to use a moisturiser with age-resisting property, but I haven't yet figured out which one I want to get. My mind boggles when I look on the shelves of Superdrug, as there are so many, but they don't state which age-group the product is recommended for, which means I walk out buying none of them. Currently I am using Garnier nutritionist, which I bought because it contains rosehip, but if I am going to use rosehip oil neat I can't see the point of putting this over it. So I need to decide on a suitable night-time moisturiser.
For daytime: keep it simple. HA serum followed by a basic moisturiser.

I am currently working on getting rid of my acne, so the above routine is what I am hoping to follow afterwards. The rosehip oil should help me with my acne scars. What do you think of my plan, mylittlefairy?

Oh Suds - you have :o now! Thank you!

I found the litre of HA serum I have in the link you supplied, it's this one
http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/10941092/Hyaluronic_Acid_Serum.html

The Dermalogica one used to be about 30 for just 30mls, so it does work out expensive that way.
I would really seriously think about ordering it from skinactives at about 3 per gm that will make 4ounces up (which I think is about 120ml), you just add it to distilled water & shake. You could purchase a few extra actives if you wanted to, but at 25 I really don't think you need it yet.

Your skin sounds dehydrated (lacking in moisture) rather than dry (lacking in oil). If it was dry, you wouldn't have acne;)

What I would recommend for dehydrated skin is Skin Actives Marine Nutrient Serum, it contains Sea kelp Bioferment which is the key ingredient in Creme de la Mer. The MNS also contains HA & with you only being 25, this may be enough just by itself. It only works out about 4/5 for 30mls. I truly wouldn't be without this now. It really has helped the dehydrated part of my skin.

You will also find that the Vit C powder from Holland & Barratt dissolves in the MNS as well. A big bottle of it is only about 6 compared to Philosophys' teenie tiny bottle which is about 20!

http://www.skinactives.com/products/ocean.htm

I wouldn't use pure Rosehip at your age, personally.
I suggest you get some Squalane (make sure it is olive derived & not from Sharks) I get mine from here
www.ofasimplenature.co.uk
You can get 100ml of it for just under a fiver. Decant some into a smaller bottle - either with a pump or a medicine dropper is ideal - & add just a small amount of your rosehip to start with & shake. You can always add extra or less, depending on how your skin responds. Keep remaining oils in the fridge.

If you take one thing away from this post, then please take this - ditch the Garnier product:) , it's just full of fillers, parabens, etc. & replace it with aloe vera gel.

I would suggest you try

Mornings
MNS serum with a tiny amount of Vit C powder
Squalane/Rosehip blended
Aloe Vera gel

& evenings exactly the same minus the Vit C

If you find the aloe vera isn't moisturising enough in the evenings then have a look at
www.beautywithoutcruelty.com

or after your face oils apply some HA serum (made up from Skin Actives), this will also help take the oils down into your skin more quickly.:)

Hey mylittlefairy, can I ask why you suggest not to use pure Rosehip? I'm in my early 20's and use it pure every night as a moisturiser :)

i suffer with dry acne prone skin and would not recommend rosehip seed at all for all over th face

it can caused cystic spots and is recommended for maturer skins partly for that reason, however i use the rosa masqueta just around my eyes daily (am 28) and have done for over a yr and all i can say is everyone at work estimated my age to be well under 24 so possibly it has helped!

its fantastic for wrinkles but very very rich hence better for more maturer skins

also be warned when you smell it it does not smell of roses at all - more like erm chip fat oil!! but thats perfectly normal and does not mean it has gone off!

I don't seem to be getting any problems with spots/congestion from it, and being a redhead my skin is prone to sun damage so maybe it's suited to my skin? I just wondered whether there was some kind of long-term damage I was doing.

Hi SQ:wave:

ML is correct in what she says.:)
Rosehip is very high in essential fatty acids, by mixing say, 10% Rosehip, with Squalane, you get a much lighter easier absorbed oil. You can always play around with the mix to see what suits you best.
I'm 47, with really dry & dehydrated skin, I am currently finding that 50% Squalane, 30% Rosehip, 10% Raspberry Seed, & 10% Pomegranate oil is working best for me at the moment.
My skin (always been dry) could never have coped with pure Rosehip in my twenties, I also would have been scared of making my skin "lazy" by overloading with too rich of an oil.
There are loads of oils that are more suited to younger skin out there, such as jojoba, squalane & camilla, to name just a few.

Manc Lass

My Rosehip doesn't smell of chip fat!:) It has more of a "woody, earthy" smell to it.
Is yours organic & cold pressed?, or maybe it's gone rancid?
I get my all my oils, with the exception of Squalane from here now

www.essentialoilsonline.co.uk

Hope that helps:)
