I prefer to avoid anything too mainstream because it would be more fun to smell distinctive rather than smell the same as every other man out there.  So this means no Aqua Di Gio  .

What ones really made you think "MMMmmmm!  That smells SO good!"?  Recommendations would be fully appreciated. :D

Depends what kind of smell you like, and what kind of personality you have, really! Also, you dress casually (jeans, T-shirts and Converse) or do you usually wear suits?

If you like fresh and citrus-y smell (best if you like to dress conservatively - might be too boyish if you wear jeans all the time) Calvin Klein's Eternity Summer or ones by Hermes.

If you prefer more heavy and distinctive note,  I think Creed is the best you can get (albeit expensive!). If you like 'earthy' tone (plants and soil, not fruits or flower),  Original Vetiver is The Fregrance for you, I think!

But make sure you try a lot - smell of fregrance changes a lot according to your natural body odor and body tempreture, so it is the best to go for what you like the most on your body. Oh, and don't overspray - one guy at my gym is known as 'D&G guy' to other people - because you can tell where he was by his overpowering D&G Light Blue!

Hello Cerise!  Thank you for your reply.

Personality - I am quite warm, artsy and friendly.  My style is conversative - typically I will wear a v-neck jumper over a button down shirt - smart jeans (dark blue, non-faded with no rips) finished off with a pair of Oxford shoes or brogues.  Here are some pictures of me:

3) http://i44.tinypic.com/oqbts0.jpg (note I am not short - the female in it is tall and was wearing a huge 5 inch stilettos, it's not often I made to feel small) :P

When heading out in the evening for dinner I will wear a blazer with button shirt.  Sometimes I also wear black Converses with jeans, t-shirt and a leather jacket too:

I do have certain preferences but it won't mean very much if others don't like it.  I am just wanting something that stands out, preferably distinctive and smells heavenly to women and who is there better to ask than women themselves, right here? :)  Expensive ones are fine - it takes me about a year to finish a bottle anyway (even though I use it every day) so it is money well spent.

You have mentioned Creed, Original Vetiver and Hermès but what are your favourites?  If you had to pick one, what would you go for?

I will definitely try them out first, as you suggested because there have been countless times when I loved a particular scent for the first few hours and I have ended up disliking a few the next day. Ralph Lauren's Romance was one. I never over spray and know what you mean about the gym.  There are quite a few guys like the D&G man you mentioned, especially in the men's changing room.  It can be intoxicating. ;)

You are quite right about the body chemistry - it does make a difference.  As does skin.  It makes me wonder why they spray samples on a piece of cardboard. :]

I just looked at your photos - and I say Creed would be the best for you!  I myself really like their fregrance, and anything by Creed would stand out greatly. The quality is excellent, smells very raw and fresh (unlike cookie-cutter generic ones) and it definately stands out among the sea of D&Gs, CKs and such. If you are arty but dress rather formally, I really think something a bit 'exotic' (spicy or earthy) is the best bet for you. So Vetiver, Orange Spice (orange, cinamon and clove) or suchlike would be the best. And vetiver is great with leather/jeans combo too, just don't overdo it.

Oh, D&G men are everywhere it seems! It is a nice note, but so many people bathe in it - same as girls' Chanel or YSL.

I have to say whilst its all good and well to ask womens opinions you should really choose the scent you like yourself - fragrance is such a personal thing.  What I think smells lovely on a man may not smell right on you or indeed you may not even like!

To be honest, I am not too picky.  It would be much worse if I picked something I really liked on myself but found most women don't particularly care for it. :)
