But the British fashion designer says he is now ready for a comeback, and that it will be epic.
He told French magazine Le Point: "I have yet to design my best collection. The new Galliano will be even bigger and better."
We think it's time to get excited about a new handbag collection.
Although it may be a little while in the making given his new job as senior creative role at Russian cosmetics company L'Etoile.
Galliano also addressed his fall from grace, which he blames on substance abuse:
"What happened in the Parisian café La Perle was a defence mechanism. I repeated a pattern I had known so well as an adolescent, and I was under an explosive mix of alcohol and drugs."
He added: "I don't want to make excuses for myself, but I want to explain what addiction can do to a person. I was no longer myself. I felt provoked, and I said the most horrible, the most intolerable, the most terrible thing there is to say. [...] What I did will never fade away, but I regret it."
