Caught while stealing her 905th handbag after a 'career' worth an estimated £500,000, the question everyone's now asking is 'how'?
Especially when the bags were often by the likes of Mulberry, Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Burberry, and the baffling fact that her husband and two children were oblivious to the three-year stealing spate.
Well, according to Jane's confession and reports on the story, here's how...
- Jane would mostly target House of Fraser department stores, which unlike designer boutiques, don't have overly complex security tagging systems.
- To avoid suspicion, Jayne would enter the store without her own handbag, remove the security tag from one in-store, then walk out with it on her arm.
- Rather than keep them for herself (you'd notice a 900-strong bag collection, right?) Jayne sold 838 of the bags for or a drastically slashed price.
- She kept it quiet. One neighbour has even been said, "'Mrs Rand is quiet and respectable - she is not the sort of person you see with a new handbag every week. There's nothing flashy about her."
Though currently out on conditional bail, it's thought Jayne will face a lengthy custodial sentence, after being charged with theft and converting criminal assets at Newport Crown Court.
