Research carried out by consumer analysts Mintel found that women from ages 16 to 54 think handbags are the most desirable fashion accessory, with 51% buying at least one in the last year.
That means that a minimum of 13.5 million handbags went to new homes in 2013.
"While consumers have become considerably more prudent with their money as a result of the recession," explained Tamara Sender, Senior Fashion Analyst at Mintel, "women have continued to spend on fashion items, with handbags the main driver of sales."
And it's not just us chicks. The manbag is apparently on the rise with one in 13 men admitting to buying one last year, especially those with hidden tech like speakers. Who exactly are these men? We want proof.
