The slogan clutch bag trend
From the Totes, Amaze and Cash bags at 3.1 Phillip Lim to the slogan clutches seen at Sophia Webster, Kate Spade and Kenzo, handbags that say it all are big news.
The backpack trend
The backpack is back for Autumn/Winter 2014, but not quite as you know it. While designers like Henry Holland have kept to traditional rucksack shapes, lots of brands including Mulberry, Stella McCartney, Zac Posen and Ralph Lauren have created sleek and chic backpacks that you can sling over your shoulder, or casually carry by hand.
The supermarket bag trend
Anya Hindmarch gave us Tony the Tiger handbags and clutches inspired by packets of biscuits. Chanel turned the whole runway into a supermarket, and offered up handbags shaped like milk cartons. Anything goes, so long as you can buy it at Tesco.
The fast food bag trend
From Kate Spade's Chinese takeaway boxes to Moschino's McDonalds fries phone case and golden arches handbag, fast food vibes have had a classy designer makeover.
The two bags trend
No more will you drag a canvas tote bag everywhere, thanks to AW14's love of carrying two handbags at once. Yes two regular handbags, be it a large and small tote, a shoulder bag and a clutch, or a backpack along with anything else.
The art inspired handbag trend
Lulu Guinness has created a straw basket portrait of artist Frida Kahlo, while Burberry's new hand painted collection takes inspiration straight from the Bloomsbury Group. 'Tis the season to get creative.
The mini bag trend
From Dolce & Gabbana to Prada, Givenchy, Celine and Moschino, everyone's designing mini handbags. Louis Vuitton's Petite Malle is our favourite so far.
The slouchy tote bag trend
Gucci has revamped the iconic Jackie bag with a slouchy deconstructed shape, while the new Mulberry Bayswater Buckle and Chloe Dilan bag have come over all soft too.
The textured handbag trend
Victoria Beckham embraced twill, Fendi got fluffy and J.JS Lee caught our eye with soft checked clutches. Don't be afraid of mixing your fabrics this season.
The supersized clutch bag trend
Oversized clutch bags just got supersized. Seen at Dries Van Noten, Chloe and exagerated at Graduate Fashion Week, bigger sure is better.
