How hair loses its X-Factor
We'd all love "I want it", touchable hair but unfortunately few of us have the head of hair we'd wish for. Even if we were lucky enough to have been born with "look-at-me locks" - who hasn't inflicted some trauma to their locks with a pair of straighteners, a bottle of bleach or a back-combing experiment?
Stresses such as pollution, sun, heat styling and chemical treatments can lift the hair's cuticles and continued daily abuse can lead to strands splitting or breaking.
The good news is that together with maintaining a balanced diet and avoiding excess stresses, the right hair care regime can restore your hair to crowning glory status complete with mirror-shine to boot.
Top US celebrity stylist Danilo believes, "Great hair starts in the shower". This has never been easier to see than with the new Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Shampoo & Conditioner range, which improves four signs of healthy looking hair, specifically shininess, manageability, lack of frizz and flyaways.
Hair care myths
It's a myth that it's bad to wash your hair every day. Some people may need to wash their hair more often, but daily usage of shampoos & conditioner will not damage hair.
It's untrue that hair care products can become less effective over time. It is however important to use products that care and condition your particular hair type - remember when you find that product, stick to it!
Danilo agrees, saying, "A fundamental truth for me is that a commitment to a regular hair care regime, for your specific hair needs or issues, ensures high performance healthy looking hair."
And what does he mean by high performance hair? "Hair that ticks the list on all of the values of healthy looking hair - shine, manageability, smoothness, no frizz, volume, no split ends and strength. With the right regime from Pantene Pro -V, you can achieve all of these things for your hair - you get healthy looking hair results every time."
Shampooing & conditioning tips
Did you know that your shower routine can also, quite literally, make or break your locks? These top tips will aid the effectiveness of your hair products and help prevent breakage in the shower.
- Keep your hair as clean as possible. With gym visits, pollution and overloading styling products it can become overloaded with daily debris.
- Max-out results of your shampoo and conditioner. Danilos advises you: "Allow both the shampoo and conditioner to sit on the hair for about a minute after application."
- Your water should not exceed 37°c (body temperature). If the water you wash your hair with is too hot, it can irritate the scalp, and result in excessively dryness
- Be careful not to rub your hair, as wet hair is more susceptible to damage.
- Never wring the hair as it can damage the cuticle. Rid excess water by patting between the hands or a towel.
- Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair after washing rather than a brush.
