Nicky Gray, KiKi's Kabin, Tyne & Wear
Nicky Gray was just 20 in 2006 when she leapt head first into business to start Kiki's Kabin, which she describes as "selling smiles, memories and a safe place for children to play while their parents relax."
Set in an old church, Kiki's Kabin is three floors of unadulterated fun for kids and just a tiny bit of thinking time for their parents. Start-up wasn't easy and Nicky found herself having to make very responsible decisions for someone of her years and battling continuously to be taken seriously by older staff members. Refusing to be defeated, she has since turned Kiki's into a successful business employing 17 people.
Nicky feels that one of the most rewarding aspects of her work is the opportunity to work with schools teaching enterprise and also mentoring other people wanting to start up their own businesses.
