Something for the weekend: Divani Caravel Hotel, Athens
Soak up some winter sun and culture from the best view in Athens.
The rooftop poolBy Alaina Vieru
In a nutshell
A luxury hotel with a panoramic view to die for. Sip a cocktail from the Divani Caravel's rooftop pool and marvel at the wonder that is the ancient Acropolis. While this five-star hotel is massive (471 rooms, 42 suites and two Presidential suites), the service is more individual and thoughtful than many tiny boutique hotels we've stayed at. The rooftop pool might be the lure, but rooms are comfortable and there's an Anne Semonin spa and Mediterranean restaurant to round things off nicely.
Perfect for...
Those who want the best of both worlds on a city break. The view of Athens and the Acropolis means you can soak up the atmosphere of the city while you relax and soak up the sun.
Liking...
The food. The Amalia for breakfast has good, strong coffee plus the most delicious Greek yoghurt we ever tasted, along with heartier breakfast buffet options. It was the perfect way to start the day before we explored the city. For dinner head to Brown's Bar And Restaurant to tuck into some gourmet Mediterranean food.
Best bit?
A dusk-time rendezvous with a glass of champagne (where else?) up on the roof.
