Walking in Sri Lanka
The island of Sri Lanka is a magical mix of tropical coastlines, centuries old pilgrimage sites and ancient and mysterious monuments, set amidst a backdrop of beautiful natural scenery with majestic waterfalls and colourful corals, all living alongside exotic wildlife and happy local folk. Ramblers Holidays offers a 19-day walking and sightseeing tour, exploring the many faces of Sri Lanka, with departures throughout the year. Since the Tsunami disaster in 2004 Ramblers Holidays have donated the profits from their Sri Lankan holidays to an orphanage run by Buddhist monks, which cares for 320 street children. This money also helps aids their schooling and vocational training courses.

Luxury safari in Kenya
The heart of the African wilderness, Kenya's Masai Mara is an awe-inspiring world of fascinating animals, beautiful birds, stunning landscapes and breathtaking sunsets. The Kicheche Mara Camp is an unfenced luxury tented game lodge, situated in a secluded area of the Masai Mara, thick with Euclea and African Olive trees. The camp has practically no impact on the local environment and the animals often wander straight through the grounds, unaware of the camp's existence.

Kicheche Mara camp provides luxurious comfort with fine food and first class service and supports the Masai people both in terms of employment and finance. All non-biodegradable waste is removed from the region to a suitable collection point in Nairobi and recycled charcoal dust pellets are brought in for water heating.

Chilling out in Mexico
Mexico is the ideal getaway for chilled out pure relaxation and the luxurious Danzante Eco-resort in Baja Califonia is the perfect place to enjoy pampering alongside beautiful wildlife and spectacular scenery. The solar powered resort is set into the hillside, overlooking the Cortez sea and offers plenty of activities including beachcombing, scuba diving, horse riding, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, whale and dolphin watching and island exploration - all set amidst a stunning backdrop.

Local women are provided with training and employed as cooks or spa therapists and local men are employed as guides for kayaking, hiking, and sea safari boat trips. Importantly all staff are paid fair wages. The resort menus follow traditional recipes and often use ingredients from the onsite organic garden. Electricity is all solar powered giving guests lighting and hot water at all times. Conservation of power excludes using hair dryers, computers or air conditioning.

Desert escape in Southern Spain
The Beautiful La Joya De Cabo de Gata resort in Almeria, Southern Spain, is set in a stunning natural park, with a spectacular coastline and striking desert scenery, against a backdrop of imposing mountains, sheer cliff faces and volcanic landscapes.

The resort has been landscaped with native plants, which has converted the area into a wonderful oasis in the middle of the desert. Relaxation beckons with an open air jacuzzi, a Roman bath style swimming pool, solariums, open air showers and shaded rest areas. There is also an Arabian Pavilion to relax and read in as well as an open-air barbecue and picnic spot. There are plenty of activities on offer for guests to enjoy including desert safaris, horse riding on the beach and scuba diving.

The farm has been designed to run effectively on ecological principles, including treating and reusing water, utilising solar power, irrigation and recycling as well as donating part of its profits to charity. There is even a Fair Trade mini market on site.

Skiing in Colorado
With superb snow, excellent facilities, great shopping and an energetic and lively après ski scene, Breckenridge Ski resort in Colorado offers all that you would expect from your winter sports destination and much more.

The resort has gone to great lengths to protect the environment by limiting snow-making, implementing effective recycling strategies, using VFD motor controls on ski lifts, discouraging car traffic by offering regular free shuttle buses, using eco-friendly pesticides and snow-melts and using composting toilets. They also measure their environmental performance each year to industry standards and educate college students on land use and sustainable economics.

Horse riding in Mongolia

Local people are employed on all the treks and profits are ploughed back into the local orphanage, the Lotus Children's Centre, which was established in 1995 to help some of Ulaanbaatar's thousands of homeless children.
