Something for the weekend: The Dylan, Amsterdam

In a nutshell...

Calm, stylish luxury in the most laid back city in Europe.

Where is it?

Overlooking the Keizersgracht canal, one of Amsterdam's famous waterways, The Dylan is discretely nestled amongst the boutiques, fine restaurants and antique shops in the city's chic nine streets area.

Perfect for?

Anybody who likes the finer things in life. Quiet, private, luxurious and cool, it's easy to see why The Dylan is so popular with celebrities. Housed in a building that dates back to 1720 it's an effortless blend of history and stylish design and makes the perfect base to explore an amazing city.

Liking...

Depending on your budget there's plenty of rooms to choose from, simple yet stylish singles all the way up to high rolling suites with a canal view. Handbag sampled one of The Dylan's amazing garden view luxury suites and fell in love at first sight. A flight of wooden stairs leads you into a large open plan and impeccably decorated room that flows from a comfortable and spacious lounge area, with a flat screen TV, sofas and desk, into the bedroom area complete with a bespoke wardrobe, well stocked mini bar and the comfiest bed we've ever slept in. Just off the vaulted ceilings of the long main room is the exquisite bathroom and it's huge bath, sandstone sinks, shower area and those all important complimentary robes.

Though you won't want to leave your room we recommend you do if only to sample some of the hotel's other delights. You can enjoy a cocktail in their chic bar or an unforgettable meal in their restaurant, widely regarded as one of Amsterdam's finest. Or let the hotel's polite, friendly and only too happy to help staff arrange a riverboat canal cruise, an in room massage or explore the area on one of their many bikes.

What else is there to do?

Well it’s Amsterdam, you can pretty do whatever your heart desires! Though it’s known for it’s coffee shops and red light district there’s much more to see besides. Amongst the city’s cobbled streets you can mooch around art galleries galore, wander about the lovely canal side flower market and dine in excellent restaurants (we recommend trying Uyt). There’s some brilliant shopping to be had too. The Dylan are currently offering fantastic specials on shopping breaks and being that the converted theatre that is the hotel is surrounded by more than enough small designer boutiques, antique shops and knick knackeries to let you waste a day poking about, they can even arrange a personal shopper for you. Perfect.
