Sugar daddy parties are reportedly coming to the UK after gaining popularity in New York.
On the other side of the pond a typical Sugar daddy party sees young women and a handful of men over the age of 40 gather at a club. Individual men and women can come to an arrangement, which sees the sugar daddy giving the lady a sum of money and/or a present for each date.
BBC News spoke to Mandy, 24, a Sugar daddy party-goer, who said, Im looking to find a boyfriend whos willing to help me out with what Im doing right now like a regular boyfriend, but richer.
Im studying at the moment and college is expensive. It works well for me if I start dating a guy who I know can take care of me financially, so I no longer have to worry.
But, surely taking money in return for dates is no more than an escort services, and, if sexual favours get thrown into the mix, prostitution? But, where do you draw the line?
Organise Alan Schneider defended the nature of his parties, stating, I dont think were taking a step backward Were taking a step forward. A lot of these women here tonight may be very wealthy, but they want to feel like ladies and be with a man who can provide for them.
Schneider explained that he doesnt see the arrangement as prostitution because Its an understanding between both parties as adults to move forward at an introductory level that theres going to be compensation. Wait. Hang on, that sounds exactly like prostitution doesnt it?
What do you think? Does receiving money for dates qualify as prostitution? How about gifts? What about if a man takes you out and pays for a really nice dinner? Where do you draw the line? Will you be happy to see Sugar daddy parties in the UK? Have you perhaps been to one, or been out with an older, richer man? We want to hear your thoughts.
