Woman
By Fiona Fraser
\r\n\r\nIt\'s a nerve-racking experience asking a guy out. Bowling up to a dishy bloke at the pub and asking him to join you for dinner is, well, terrifying. There\'s no easy way to do it but he\'s certainly more likely to accept your invitation if you can pull it off with a bit of cheek, and you\'ll feel much better if you can walk away from a resounding \'No thanks\' with your dignity intact. Here are some tried and tested inventive new ways to try out on him...

Make him feel knowledgeable and important. Buy tickets to the Arsenal v Liverpool game and ask him to take you so you can learn the rules

Tell him you\'re in the market for a new car and would he like to come and help you test drive the new Mercedes E-class. Ensure such a car exists before trying this one

Woman
Get his number by asking him to pledge money/sponsor you for a local fitness event such as the BUPA Capital 10km Run or the London Marathon. He will be wowed by your charitable nature and impressed by your commitment to an athletic event. And you\'ll be able to call him after the big day and collect hopefully in more ways than one

Couple
If he\'s a friend and you want to initiate a more intimate relationship, send him an invoice with services rendered down one column (fashion advice, phone calls, emergency cab fares, etc) and tell him he can make payment by joining you for dinner at the restaurant of his choice

Meet him there and give yourselves a maximum £2 bet on each race lots of noisy, crazy fun and if the date ends badly, at least you might have accumulated some pingers. Note: check with any mutual friends you might have to be sure he\'s not suffering a gambling addiction before you attempt this one

Tool box
Men love to feel useful. Ask him to help you go looking for a new power drill/lawnmower/guitar amplifier. If things go well, suggest he helps you install a new hard drive onto your computer. This is time-consuming and difficult. If he agrees to it, he definitely fancies you

Email him a questionnaire to fill out Would you like to go out sometime? Y/N. If it comes back with the Y marked, send a second questionnaire to ascertain what sort of date he\'d like: a) Dinner and movie, b) Picnic (etc). Take another questionnaire to your date and deliver it when you\'re nearing that awkward end-of-date moment. What would you like to do now? a) Move to the bar and get horrendously drunk. b) Go home. Alone. c) I actually really fancy shagging you. Note: A woman who did this four years ago is now married to her date
