World Cup wife: what would you give to be one?

David and Victoria Beckham

One in ten women would ditch their partner to be a famous footballer's wife – so while the men dream of World Cup glory, around six million women are dreaming of being married to the likes of Becks or Thierry Henry.

Over a quarter of women would jump at the chance to be the next Victoria or Colleen, despite 92 per cent recognising the pressures to look perfect all the time, according to a new survey of 1000 women by Rapid White - leading home tooth whitening brand and official sponsors of the BDHF National Smile Month 2006.

The world's richest footballer, David Beckham was the player most women would choose to be married to – even though only 22 per cent admitted that money was the main attraction, whereas almost half said personality.

Even without being a footballer's wife, 68 per cent said they felt under unfair pressure to look just as glamorous. The majority of women, over 57 per cent, said that having their teeth whitened would be the first beauty procedure they would go for, closely followed by weight loss surgery.

75 per cent confessed they thought footballers' wives made bad role models, with such unrealistic lifestyles but the women in the survey still most envied the mansions, exotic holidays and indulgent beauty treatments.

Victoria Beckham certainly put footballer's wives on the celebrity A list and she still rules the roost, being selected as the most glamorous of all. With her bad press and dubious track suits, Colleen only came in fifth place, behind Harry Kewell's wife and Star of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Sheree Murphy, Ashley Cole's 'Girls Aloud' fiancé, Cheryl Tweedy and Sven's Nancy Dell'Olio.

A patriotic 34 percent of the women said they thought England had the most attractive players, although a treacherous 30 per cent went for Italy and just over 10 per cent chose France.

On behalf of Rapid White, Karen Cullen comments, 'Despite negative opinions about footballers' wives, women are irresistibly drawn to the glamour and unavoidably influenced by their looks and lifestyles. Although most of us would happily go for some celeb-style beauty treatments such as tooth whitening to get the look, I'm sure men everywhere will be relieved that most women wouldn't actually go so far as dumping their partner to get the lifestyle!'
