1
You eat breakfast
Religiously every day – a bowl of porridge (all the better for its slow-releasing sugars to avoid mid-morning slump), a freshly made fruit smoothie and a large cup of antioxidant-rich green tea
In a hurry usually, but you try to force down a quick bowl of cereal; you know it's the most important meal of the day
Occasionally on weekends you'll do brunch (eggs Bendict with a large bloody Mary on the side) but breakfast? Never
2
Your idea of a balanced diet is
Making sure everything fits on the plate
A careful mix of the major food groups, heavy on fresh fruit and vegetables with enough protein and dairy to ensure you're nutritional needs are being met, a fairly low carb intake (and never after 5pm) and a low GI count in most things
Hitting your five-a-day portions of fruit and veg with a good mix of everything else
3
You read food labels
Pretty religiously – you try and avoid things you can't pronounce on the labels
Whenever there's a health scare announced – for about a week until you forget and slip back into your old convenience-food ways
You don't do labels. You cook everything from scratch – that way you control what goes into your meals

Fats are:
Pretty confusing, what with all that good fat, bad fat nonsense – you try to tread a moderate line by sticking to a low-fat diet within reason
A moment on your lips, a lifetime on your hips – but you still can't say no to fat chips and double-chocolate muffins so you sacrifice pleasure for waistline every time
A complex nutritional conundrum – you avoid artery-clogging trans-fats by eating as little processed food as possible, but enjoy so-called high-fat foods such as avocado and nuts as part of a balanced diet
5
The way to get the best, nutritionally speaking, from your fruit and veg is to
Eat only fresh, organic produce, preferably locally sourced – nutrients begin to fall off as soon as something is picked
Eat it raw or lightly steamed – that helps to keep the goodness in
Add red peppers to your pizza topping
