Priya Lakhani, Masala Masala, London
As a young, professional Indian woman Priya Lakhani had one aim in starting her company Masala Masala - to create a truly authentic curry that could be found on the supermarket shelf and yet was still as good as her mother's.
Priya has managed to maintain the integrity of the old while combining it with the new, and achieve all this in a business setting. Self-taught, she is proof that prior experience is not a prerequisite to business success.
Priya is "determined to give something back to the wonderful country from which these recipes came" and will launch the Masala Masala Trust alongside the business. Based in Mumbai it will provide a meal to a homeless person for every unit of product sold.
Masala Masala is set to launch at The Speciality and Fine Foods Fair in London this September and so far the range consists of eight products, three of which will be revealed at the launch.
