Do you think cosmetic surgery is an acceptable part of one's lifestyle?
Jennifer Aniston has said the only way she'd consider plastic surgery is if it was for medical reasons. Do you agree?
alex-s, some rights reservedCosmetic surgery is on the rise in the UK, overtaking other European countries such as Italy and France. UK consumers paid close to £500m getting nipped and tucked, according to market analysts Datamonitor.

I think it's a shame that women have been made ot feel inadequate by magazines and celebrity lifestyle. Surgery should be to help with illnesses, bot to "correct" perceived "imperfections".

What a silly question. Cosmetic surgery is for people with mental illness.

Whatever happened to being happy within yourself? A bit of surgery won't solve anything longterm - you'll just start obsessing about something else! Good on Jen!

If you need an operation whic happens to alter your image to make your life medically better, then fine. but not if unecessary.

You can be critical of plastic surgery if you don't need it or have any self concerns - otherwise you should leave each to his own.

@7 i think most people here are sayibng just that - that in case of medical problems then fine, but to make your average nose that little bit smaller because you are persuing an impossible ideal, then its stupid.

@7 surely the simple availability of cosmetic surgery will make people have self concerns??? What about the endless pimping of [programs on the TV about vaginal reconstruction?? How can you NOT have self concerns after that?

There is nothing wrong with cosmetic surgery. Anyone who has a problem about it is just jealous because they can't afford it!!

There are some very ignorant negative comments on here- I daresay bourne out of jealousy that other women improve themselves to llok more attractive - and that they can afford to do so. Sounds rather competitive and bitter to me. If it doesn't afftect you and it isn't your money, why do you have any problem at all with it? It's none of your business!

I have had cosmetic surgery on my boobs, tummy, hips and nose. I am not vain or even mental I just want to look the best that I can possibly look. Im not doing it to attract the opposite sex and I consider myself to have class. I dont dress like a hooker or feel the need to parade my body for all and sundry. I never wish to be a wag, or porn star. I am the mother of 4 lovely children, I work hard have a very good group of friends and did it for me. I know now that when I go on holiday or take my children swimming im not conscious of my wobbly bits anymore. none of my surgery has been over the top. So please if you are considering surgery about something your not happy with then I would say go for it. And if you dont agree with it then thats fine too. But theres no need to be so critical of those who have changed things for themselves it is up to them and their body to do as they wish

Of course I think it's a normal thing, if you do care your body and want also to please your lover.
I also think that now the time is to male surgery, liposuccion, penis extention, wrinkles, etc

Women and children are mentally lightweight midgets as compared to all men, and I do mean ALL MEN who, as soon as we become men, age 13 or 14 or so, think, each and every one of us to the last man, think that we are God's gift to women, and perfection incarnate, made in God's image and all that, just the way we are. Yes, occasionally, cleft palates and pendulous situations can be modified medically. But Asian women who have eye surgery to gain the more Hollywood or Television inspired Western "Round Eyes" look? Give me a break. Televised images are optical illusions, anyway. Celebrity and magazine faces are carefully cultivated FICTIONS. Why aren't all the Victims of Cosmetology, Mass Media, Peer Group Pressures, and the Fashion Industry AWARE OF THIS, just like us guys are? I mean, if we know it, and you are just looking good to please us, why not smarten up about it, and learn to cook with the money you spend on cosmetic surgery? Do or become something or someone useful, rather than just someone who thinks they will think they look good, after cosmetic surgery. Of course, the truth is exactly the opposite. Start reading some good books to develop your mind, is my best advice. Quite frankly, I think anyone who gets cosmetic surgery, for other than bona fide medical reasons, should be disqualified from voting.

hi i dont think theres anything wrong wid plastic surgery, we live in a society where people are judged on looks, we can all deny it but its the dim truth, therefore i think if you can buy this theres no harm

unfotunately nowadays people are very competitive in all terms of life including the way they look, that's why i don't blaim those who persue to have the perfect image but only those who produce that fake idea!!

I think that cosmetic surgery is rediculase as they are now bringing it to young teenagers and they are all up for getting a boob job and nose and croch jobs. just so they look nice as they all want to be like the girls they see in magz. i am a teenager that thinks that this is stupid i am not totally against this as there might be some one that has got scars or injuries that they would like to get cover i am totally for it if they have a good reason for it.

i am 23 years old and have large but very saggy breasts- i have not breast fed or lost a huge amount of weight- they just grew that way. It is incredibly unnattractive and embarrassing and i defy any of you out there to say that if you had this issue and the ability to do something about it that you wouldn't.
I am planning on having a breast uplift very soon and cannot wait until i have breasts which look like they belong to a woman of my age and not a saggy old grandmother!

In other parts of the world people, poor innocent children and babies suffer and die from illnesses that could be easily treated if they had medical help. In other parts of the world people and children die of starvation.
Over here we eat ourselves to near death then use medical expertise to have all that fat sucked out of our arses!!
How messed up is that!
I wonder how many lifes could have been saved if all the medical expertise that went into all the above peoples opperations went into saving lives rather than making people look "perfect".
Anyone thinking of having plastic surgery should do themselves and the rest of the world a favour and donate the money they would have spend on a big stupid looking plastic tits to a charity to help the people in the developing world. This money could save thousands of childrens lives rather than putting your own life at risk!

I'm 19 and 1 month ago I had a breat reduction. This is "cosmetic surgery". I don't regret it at all. I'd never have been happy if I had to endure 28GG breasts the rest of my life. This may be classed as cosmetic, but in most people theory cosmetic surgery is done to improve appearances and whilst my breasts are smaller and i'm much happier there is a LOT of large scars...so does this improve appearances?
So yes I agree with cosmetic surgery.
