Natural born leader: A leadership gene has been identified

If you want to know if you are destined to make it to the upper echelons of your company, take a look at your parents as scientists say being a good leader is down to your genes.

A study has identified a specific DNA sequence associated with people taking on a leadership position.

Studying samples of around 4,000 individuals, and comparing that to info about their jobs and relationships – there was found to be a strong correlation between this specific gene (rs4950 if you're interested?) and being a leader.

The results published in Leadership Quarterly, contribute to the issue of employers potentially using genetic information for selection and assessment in the future.

'The conventional wisdom - that leadership is a skill - remains largely true, but we show it is also, in part, a genetic trait,' explained lead author, Dr Jan-Emmanuel De Neve.

We wouldn't throw in the towel on that leadership training course just yet folks.
