Lucinda Ellery, hair extension specialist and founder of National 'No-Pulling' Week, will be with us all week talking about Trichotillomania...
"Now that we are almost at the end of National 'No-Pulling' Week, I hope you have come to understand a bit more about Trichotillomania (or TTM or even better, Traction Alopecia). If you suffer, or if you know anyone that does, I want to let you know that there is help available out there.
There are many different forms of treatment and during my 25 years of experience working with TTM sufferers, I have found that a mix of treatments usually have the most positive results. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is very helpful and enables sufferers to explore what sparks the desire to pull and the causes behind it. Emotional support, talking and one-to-one help are vital to beating TTM and your first step should really be opening up to friends and family.
I hope that this week has shown that there is NO NEED TO FEEL ASHAMED of your condition - it's nothing worse than biting your nails but it can grow and consume you and take over your life. If you think you might have TTM, please don't sit in silence.
Admitting that you have a problem is 80% of the battle, once you are ready to face it you're well on the road to recovery.
You can visit your GP, or visit myself and the team at the studio; together we can talk about TTM and the best way to treat it. Visit my website: lucindaellery-hairloss.co.uk which is packed full of information and advice.
Understanding the reasons why you pull are absolutely crucial and at our studios we offer one-to-one support sessions, but looking great and feeling confident again are also very important steps to recovery.
To this end, I have developed three hair replacement techniques which I use with my clients to bring them great looking hair, whether it's their own or not! The first is Medi Connections which is a targeted hair replacement treatment used to boost the volume of natural hair.
The second is the Intralace system which uses a unique gauze platform and hair pieces to cover damaged hair and create a beautiful full head of natural-looking hair.
The final technique is the Intralace Free Wear system which uses a mesh integrated into existing hair to protect the scalp and deter pulling. In addition, I use a mix of other hair pieces including clip in hair extensions to give an extra boost."
