Top four reasons to lose weight

Most dieters share the same reasons for losing weight. Top among them are the following:

To look better
To feel better
To have more energy
To feel more confident

While those are great reasons as to why someone may want to lose weight, they do nothing to help instil the determination and motivation needed to take the actions necessary to lose the weight. So, what will?

Why?

Take a few moments to think and ask questions like an inquisitive child. If the four most common reasons for wanting to lose weight are yours too, great. If not, then determine what your own reasons are. Now, ask yourself:

'WHY do I want to look better?' 'Why will looking better benefit me?' 'Why will losing weight make me look better?' 'What will my life be like if I look better than I do right now?' 'In what ways will my life improve if I look better?' and so on.

'WHY do I want to feel better?' 'When did I last feel at my very best?' 'What is the benefit of feeling better?' 'Will I have more experiences if I am feeling better?' 'Will I enjoy my new healthy lifestyle?' 'How active in the community will I be when I am feeling better?' etc.

'WHY do I want more energy?' 'What will I do with more energy?' 'What am I not doing now that I would like to be doing because of a lack of energy?' 'How will I feel doing those things?' 'Who will I do them with?' etc.

'WHY do I want to be more confident?' 'What situations make me feel lacking in confidence?' 'Will losing weight change my confidence?' 'How?' 'What will having more confidence do for my life?' etc.

Keep asking those probing questions of yourself until you absolutely exhaust any further questions and answers. When you are done, ask one more set of questions:

What can I do this week to look better?
What can I do today that will give me more energy?
What can I do right now to make myself feel better?
What can I do every minute to make myself more confident?

Those questions might not be as easily answered, unless you look at them the right way and from the right perspective.

Vow to stay firmly on the path of self-improvement. Do the things necessary to make forward progress each day.
Exercise! Nothing can or ever will make you feel more energised than moving your body. Whatever fitness level you are at, do what you are capable of doing and do it with 100% effort!

Believe in yourself. Forgive what happened in the past, let go of the anger and frustration over past 'diets' and move on!
