Gwen Stefani is one of few artists to make their mark in both the music and fashion industry and she\'s as idolised for her athletic physique as she is for her quirky dress sense and catchy music. She\'s often spotted showing off her six-pack when she\'s on tour but Gwen is always the first to admit that she has to work at it to keep her body looking hot. With summer already upon us the pressure is on to tone up and shed the extra winter pounds so we\'ve dug Gwen\'s failsafe diet and fitness tips so that you can get a body worth of the spotlight

Gwen relies heavily on cardio to keep her weight down and she works out with her personal trainer, Gunnar Peterson an exhausting five times a week. Such a hefty workout schedule might not fit into everyone\'s schedule but if you want a toned, firm body, you need to incorporate exercise into your everyday routine even if it\'s just running up the stairs. Speaking about Gwen, Gunnar says; \"She approaches her training like a pro athlete. She gets that her body is a unit and you need to train every part of it to look incredible. Doing a lot of running when she\'s not in the gym is the key because it means she\'s toned, but she also gets to keep her feminine shape. It\'s important to her to have a girlie figure. Her body motivates a lot of people.\"

Gwen is always the first to admit that she loves being thin which is why she works so hard at it. In an interview with US magazine Gwen said that she; "works hard to stay in shape. I became a swimmer at school - but only because I wanted to be skinner! I\'m extremely vain. I like wearing cute clothes." No shame in that!

The first thing that pops into our minds when we think of Gwen Stefani is her incredible abs which she regularly displays much to our grievance. The key to achieving a flat, washboard stomach is repetitive exercises combined with a low fat diet. Gwen\'s trainer has her lie on her back on a fitness ball with her legs in front, making a bridge. Then she holds a medicine ball behind her head, by her right ear before curling her body up and bringing the ball diagonally across to her left knee. Try repeating this exercise ten times before swapping over to the other side and you\'ll soon notice a difference.

Ever heard of the Raw Food Diet which is currently taking LA by storm? After Gwen gave birth to her first child she apparently turned to this popular eating regime to shed the pounds fast. As the name suggests you\'re basically only allowed to eat raw, uncooked foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and beans, that\'s right, no meat. As well as being very low-fat the diet is a great way of getting plenty of vitamins and nutrients as most fruit and vegetables lose the majority of their nutritional value when cooked.

Unlike many celebrities who claim they gorge on burgers and fries all day Gwen admits that keeping her size 4 figure is a constant struggle saying; \"I\'ve always been on a diet, ever since I was in the sixth grade. It\'s an ongoing battle and it\'s a nightmare. But I like clothes too much, and I always wanted to wear the outfits I would make.\" To help her stick to her diet Gwen tries to eat healthily 90% of the time and occasionally allows herself a treat such as cookie dough or pizza which stops her wanting to pig out.

After giving birth to her second child, Zuma in 2008, Gwen ignored the pressure to shrink back to her pre-baby weight in a matter of days like other A-listers and instead, gave herself three months to gradually lose the weight and tone up again. Most diets fail because slimmers restrict themselves of foods they enjoy or they expect to lose half a stone in five days which is never going to happen. Take a leaf out of Gwen\'s book and take your time, you only have to look at her to see that it works!

To avoid bulking up and looking too skinny (Madonna take note) Gwen alternates her cardio with plenty of weight training designed to shape her bottom and give her some womanly curves. To do this she focuses on her glutes, (the muscles which run underneath your thighs) using a fitness ball. Try lying face down on the ball with your front touching the ball where your belt buckle sits. Put your palms flat down on the floor and slightly bend your elbows to balance yourself. Have your legs straight out behind you, but turn your feet out. Slowly lift your heels towards the ceiling then pause so you feel it in your bottom. Do three sets of 8-12 of these.

Gwen has a simple approach to food and doesn\'t rely on faddy diets or gimics to maintain her figure, \"It\'s simple math: You put this much food in, you burn that much working out.\" If you really want to lose weight and keep it off, stick to this simple method and you\'ll be much better off.
