handbag.com meets Kate and Yasmina

You’ve come this far, how are you feeling?
Yasmina: I just can’t wait to find out who it’s going to be, whether it’s the first path or the second path I just want to get walking down it, basically.
Kate: I’m quite nervous. I’m proud of myself to have got into the final and god-forbid if I shouldn’t win then I’ll be really pleased for Yasmina, we’re good friends and she’s been a great competitor. Either way I’m just going to try and be positive, but I’d love to win.

How much of it is a game?
Yasmina: It’s like the best game you can possibly imagine and you’re just a pawn in the middle of it.

What do you think of Sir Alan, Nick and Margaret?
Yasmina:
They’re all very intelligent. Early on you realise it doesn’t matter what you to say because they’re going to direct the conversation the way they want. You have to be really quick and on the ball.

What do you think you have over one another?
Kate:
Sometimes it’s frustrating when people are trying to force you into a corner to say why you’re better. It’s not a case of that. It’s not a case of I’m better than her.
Yasmina: Which is why we’ll be pleased no matter what happens I know I’ll be pleased for Kate if she wins and I know she’ll be pleased for me. Kate’s presenting skills are second-to-none. She can have a whole room captivated. She’s extremely articulate and quick with her thought processes. When you meet Kate you think ‘oh-my-god she’s beautiful’ and after five minutes you realise she’s intelligent too.
Kate: The final task is about designing chocolates and Yasmina’s from a catering background and I wondered whether that might put her at a bit of an advantage.

Kate you were described as boring. Is that fair?
Kate: I’m not a boring person but I was keen to keep up a professional image throughout. That might have been perceived negatively by some people, but I can take criticism on the chin.

You dropped your guard when Lorraine gave you “dagger eyes” during the shopping channel task.
Kate: I responded badly to the fact that she was trying to wind me up. That’s what ruffled me, not her criticism, she couldn’t let it drop. She seems to take pleasure in winding people up.

Yasmina, in the interviews it was suggested your restaurant figures were made up.
Yasmina:
I went in expecting a normal interview and it was an interrogation. I hadn’t thought about my business accounts for about five months and the whole thing went tits up. I made a complete fool out of myself and walked out and said, “guys that was just terrible.”

But you didn’t say that did you?
Yasmina: I did say it, but they cut the wrong exit in. Which was unfair, but I’ve had an apology. You know, it’s a television programme, we’re aware of that.

Kate, are we going to see you and Phil in OK magazine?
Kate: Obviously if I win then I’m going to be working for Sir Alan, and if I don’t win my priority is going to be getting another fantastic job opportunity.
