It’s easy to wash and go, but without a little styling short hair can be so-so instead of so sexy. Here are a few tips on how to style short hair.

Styling in a minute

If you have a choppy crop all you need to do to ensure your hair looks good is to use a texturising product. There are waxes, sprays and lotions to choose from and it’s largely personal preference, but a wax or gel is great for coarse hair.
Lotions and creams are better for fine hair – although you need no more than a five pence-sized blob, and sprays are good for either hair type but it’s easy to overdo it. Play it safe by spraying the texturiser on to your brush or on to your hands and then use your fingers or your brush to style.

Accessories for short hair

One of the best things about having short hair is that you can work almost any hair accessory and look fabulous (apart from pony bands, of course). So, don’t be scared of clips, grips, Alice bands and barrettes – they’re all up for grabs if you have short hair.

The celebrity hairdresser says:

Peter Gray, one of the top red carpet hairstylists, recently style Michelle Williams’ crop for the Met Ball. Here’s what he did:
“I created the whole effect on freshly-shampooed, naturally-dried hair and started by trimming and squaring Michelle’s hair around the temple areas, leaving the overall outline of her haircut untouched.
“Next, I poured a bit of Moroccanoil Light into my palms then dabbed my fingers into it. I applied it on the roots to separate the strands and give a look of effortless volume. Using Moroccanoil Light also gave Michelle’s bright blonde colour vibrance.”
“I lightly combed the back of the head to create a nice flat shape. Then I ruffled the hair all over the head with my fingers for movement and to shape the style. I know that with the right products, and using this technique, it’s so easy to style short hair at home - the secret is a little light product and not to be too precious about precision.”

New trends for short hair

While long hair was back on the catwalks: long ponytails, beachy waves, big hair, etc, short hair was still making a fashion-forward statement.
Two big hair trend stories are fringes, which look great on short hair, whether feathered or blunt. The wet-look trend is also brilliant for short hair. If you want to try the wet-look trend and you have short hair, just apply a wet-look hair product and slick back your ’do.
