Dear Melissa
I have over highlighted my hair which is naturally a mousey brown. What now? Low lights? I'll need your expert advice as I'm extremely frustrated. Hence the reason I'm e-mailing you at midnight!
Thanks, Colleen
Hi Colleen
My advise is to leave your hair until you get some roots, as adding more colour will just overload it even more. After around 12 weeks, go for some lowlights to break up the blonde, but I advise three shades of colour - one dark to break up the light hair, a soft light brown, as well as a blonde. It will take a while but eventually your hair will be back in good shape and in the meantime use lots of treatments to keep it in good condition, as well as a shampoo and a conditioner especially for coloured hair, such as head&shoulders Colour Care (£1.89 each).
Hiya Melissa
Ok this might seem like a simple one but for us ladies trying to look after our hair and also not spend too much - just how often do you recommend getting your hair cut?
Thanks Susie
Hi Susie
It's best to have hair cuts every 8-10 weeks, depending on your hairstyle. If you don't want to spend too much money on cuts, why not go for a low maintenance look - longer styles with layers need less attention.
Hello Melissa
I am black American woman who moved to Hawaii. As I am always in the water my hair is very dry and due to the fact I wear braids all of the time. What can I do to add a big surge of moisture to my hair and any other style tips other than braids, my hair is of a medium length and I want something easy to manage?
Thanks Marion
Hi Marion
I think applying a thick intensive leave-in conditioner every day will help your hair, especially before the braids go in. Otherwise why not wear your hair loose and twist it with conditioner to separate the curls? This will take some time, but give you a completely new look and you can wear scarves and hair bands to dress the hair. I highly advise you keep a hat on and cover your hair as much as possible, also use an SPF for hair. Phyto Plage do a great range of oils and protectors for hair which would work brilliantly with your texture.
Hi Melissa
I have curly hair but often think about having long straight hair. But it's hard as my hair doesn't take well to straighteners so what do I do? Would you recommend permanently straightening curly hair that is dry and frizzy - or does that just make things worse?
Look forward to your advice
I would not recommend having chemical straightening. If your hair is curly, try to work with the curls as much as possible, as pulling it straight all of the time will only damage the hair. You can then save having straight hair for special occasions and enjoy a professional blow dry at your salon.. If you do straighten it, make sure you put the moisture back in by using a shampoo and conditioner designed to look after damaged or over-styled hair - try new head&shoulders Damage Rescue which is like scalp and hair rehab in a bottle! I use it a lot on my clients.
Dear Melissa
I would like to go grey but have dyed my hair for years. I am totally bored with colouring but the grey roots are now half an inch long. Luckily my hair is wavy and it does notice too much but I can't stand it. I don't want to give in but I can't stand the block of roots which will show soon. Is there anyway of avoiding this growing out period? My hair is now medium brown with very subtle highlights (apart from grey/white routes)
Thanks in advance, Kim
Hi Kim
Growing out colour is always painful unfortunately, but my advise is to have some light highlights to blend in the roots to the ends, then slowly get used to your natural colour. The best way to make this process speed up is to cut off the dark coloured hair - why not go for a total re-style with soft choppy layers and a fringe?
Best of luck, Melissa
