I went to meet the very charming Andrew Collinge at The Soho hotel to chat about his new hair care range, which contains some extremely exotic ingredients. The Purity range has four types of care: smooth, volume, colour and hydra therapy, so you can decide which range your hair will benefit from using the most. Or you can mix and match if you require a combination of help to get your hair back into tip top condition. Andrew informed me, however, that the colour therapy shampoo and conditioner should really be used together to get the maximum benefits from the mild sulphate-free formula.
The formulas feature organic Quinoa protein that contains the two most important amino acids for strong and healthy hair. It also has an abundance of exotic botanicals with rare aroma-therapeutic oils and captivating fragrances - my bathroom has never smelled so wonderfully exotic, that's for sure. The reassuring thing about Andrew's range is that the products you buy in the shops are the same ones he uses in his salons, so you know you're getting salon quality care at home and at an affordable price.
I also managed to get a couple of hair tips out of him while fighting over the last biscuit. He suggested that women shouldn't rinse their hair to absolute squeaky cleanness because it strips out all the natural oils and takes away all the nourishing and protecting benefits of the conditioner you've just applied. Instead a gentle rinse should leave your hair free of product but with the protection your hair care products are there to give.
Andrew also told me that his top tip for hair this coming season is the use of texture. "Whatever your style it will be kept fresh and funky as long as it's showing lots of texture," he advised. Whether that's soft, loose curls a la Chloé, backcombed crimping seen at Prada or the wet look crowns seen on girls stalking the catwalk for Alexander Wang, texture is big news for autumn/winter.
