Big hair is back. \"It\'s Amy Winehouse, meets Victoriana,\" explains Malcolm Edwards, session stylist and Fashion Week fixture. \"The flyaway strands and the arm-aching amount of backcombing involved is what makes this look, and it suits all hair types, so fine-haired girls needn\'t despair.\"

\r\n\r\n

Aim to achieve a clean, ‘cloud\' type of bouffant, rather than a matted bird nest that defies combing. \"Load up the hair with lightweight products,\" says Malcolm. \"L\'Oréal Professionnel tecni.art Pli, £11.30, makes hair thicker so scrunch it on dry hair, brush it out and blast with a hairdryer.

If your hair\'s curly, straighten it first. Back-brush gently and mist with L\'Oréal Professionnel tecni.art Air Fix, £8.25.  For additional flyaways he suggests clamping back combed sections with straightening irons for a few seconds.

Hair trends - Braids

hair products, bafta awards, hair styling, hair care, hair Hair style trends - Kate Hudson BAFTA plaits

Loose simple braids are really on trend for spring, with the runways a breeding ground of different interpretations, but the transition to real life couldn\'t be simpler as long as you think Kate Hudson at the BAFTAs, and not Heidi halfway up a mountain.

\r\n\r\n

King of Knightsbridge hair, Errol Douglas, MBE  advises, \"be careful with anything too tight as it can look twee rather than stylish. Also braids don\'t suit everybody, if your hair isn\'t long enough to create a band-like circle of braid around the head, forget it.\" For lasting lustre, prep hair with Shu Uemura Art of Hair Satin Design White Tea Polishing Milk, £18, 01273 861870

With Sex & The City receiving the big screen treatment expect a copycat Carrie-fest of super-luxe spirals with a 70s twist. \"Bradshaw curls love root lift and volume,\" comments Errol. \"For this you can\'t beat hot rollers. Allow them to cool completely before removing and spritzing curls with Matrix Amplify Texturising Spray, £9.25, 0845 601 0122.

\r\n\r\n

For a looser feel, tip your head upside down, shake curls out and spray again.\" If your curls are natural, but with feral tendencies, apply TIGI Bed Head Uptight, £9.75, twist sections of hair around your fingers to create ringlets and use a diffuser attachment to create lasting definition. Sleep your way to additional silkiness with John Frieda Frizz-Ease Overnight Repair Crème Serum, £15.

Hair trends - Blondes

Blonde, hair styling, colouring, hair care, hairdresser Hair style trends - Karine Jackson blonde hair colour

The blueprint for the ultimate summer blonde can be cool or warm. Karine Jackson, London Hairdresser of the Year and Director, Karine Jackson Hair & Beauty, London, 020 7836 0300 is a fan of golden tones. \"They\'ve really made their mark on the catwalks lately. Our current favourites in the salon are butter-kissed tones and warm fire blondes.\"

At Headmasters salons, Creative Director Zoë Irwin has launched four pretty washes to go over blonde highlights to add the subtlest hues. Choose from First Blush - creates a whimsical whisper of pink, Violet Sorbet - adds the gentlest ash tones, Snow Sparkle - gives the cleanest icy white blonde and Vanilla Dune - introduces a nuance of nude beige.

Hair trends - Brunettes

hair products, Brunette, hair styling, colouring, hair care Hair style trends - Penelope Cruz brown hair

The brownie pack usually loses out to their blonde sisters in the summer months, but the sultry señorita meets femme fatale vibe is second nature to Penelope Cruz and Eva Green and is red hot for the months ahead.

\r\n\r\n

\"It\'s Robert Palmer meets Pedro Almodovar,\" explains Malcolm Edwards. \"Opt for a strong side parting with a hint of Spanish flamenco. Round faces should take the fringe higher off the face, long faces should go for a severe side parting, and a low sweeping fringe will suit those with strong features.\" L\'Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss Glossy Chocolates collection in Praline, Chocolate and Caramel, £7.99, are the perfect introduction to the dark side, lasting up to 28 shampoos.

Hair trends - Blunt cut bobs

bob, hair styling, hair care, hairdresser Hair style trends - Natalie Imbuglia bob

The edgier celebrity beauties can\'t get enough of the classic bob with its strong perimeter and heavy blunt fringe. The definitive look is a small, solid shape. Errol Douglas says, \"Graduation up the back of the neck into the nape creates a beautiful line and if it\'s jaw level is very alluring in the best Louise Brooks tradition - sexy and sharp.\"

\r\n\r\n

Encourage smoothness with Richard Ward\'s Stay Straight Shampoo and Conditioner, £4.49 each, available at Superdrug. Another bonus with the bob is its adaptability. A fringe can be dressed into a quiff, while a low side parting and a slick sculpted look combine for a vampy, androgynous feel.
