The latest musical come blockbuster film Nine, is set to be a Christmas hit and with a star-studded cast this beautiful it's easy to see why. Daniel Day-Lewis led an all-star cast of female stars including Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas, Marion Cotillard, Dame Judi Dench and Kate Hudson who all look stunning here at the New York premiere.

Not only are the dresses dripping in designer fabulousness but the hair was something to be admired too. Wow what a semi final it was this week on the X Factor. Danyl's gone, Lady Gaga sang in a bath tub and Olly cried... a lot! But our one shocker - yes, we even texted about it during the show - came in the form of Cheryl Cole's hair. Finally it appears she has ditched her hair extensions.

Gone are those glossy, long extensions and in their place her natural, mid-length wavy hair. We are sure you are pleased too as a few of you recently told us how unhappy you were that Cheryl had been named the new ambassador for L'Oréal considering her unnatural hair and I quote, "Everyone knows Cheryl Cole has head full of hair extensions. Showing her fake hair as advertisement of restoring hair products says that British woman is stupid and will believe in anything." Ouch.

We certainly have the Monday morning blues today - where did the weekend go? And when we spotted this picture of the stunning Penelope Cruz we had a serious case of hair envy too. Tumbling curls, a glossy A-list finish and a cutesy hair clip... we want!

The X factor winner with the vocals from heaven is treating the States to her pitch-perfect brand of balladry at the moment. She's appeared on shows such as Dancing With The Stars - the US version of Strictly Come Dancing - and last night popped out to the US Weekly Hot Hollywood Event in LA sporting this rather fetching hairstyle.

Opting for a relaxed and loose ponytail with pretty, face-framing tendrils, the diva looked effortlessly gorgeous. We suspect however, that this hairdo wasn't exactly a roll-out-of-bed job. Her natural hair texture - the tight spiral curls - have been blown out using a big barrelled brush and plenty of smoothing cream or serum before being gently tied back leaving the hairstyle with plenty of volume and touch-ability. You might have thought one of Hollywood's hottest up and coming actresses would have played it safe at the premiere of her latest film, New Moon, but no, not Kristen Stewart. Breaking the mould, Kristen opted for a messy, wet-look hairstyle that looked more bed head than Hollywood glamour. Her hair was a mix of curls, waves and twists. The top section appeared to have been curled or tonged, backcombed at the roots for volume and sprayed heavily backwards into place forming a quiff like finish, with some of the twists pinned loosely and sporadically into place. Last night saw the Los Angeles premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and it appears the moon (and most probably the presence of RPatz) brought out anyone mildly famous under the age of 21, all looking spookily similar with their long, flowing locks. One woman to buck the trend however was 90210's Jennie Garth. The more mature actress - she's still only a mere 35, mind - proved she can still give the kids a run for their money with this futuristic sculpted hairdo. Musician Taylor Swift scooped four awards at the 43^rd Annual CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee last night including awards for Best Album Of The Year and Best Female Vocalist.

We were impressed with her Rapunzel-like hair and instant transformation from chic red carpet style to country rock chick with the removal of a few grips. Her loose yet elegant side-parted updo turned into long flowing wavy locks perfect for flipping about on stage.

Katy Perry isn't shy of showing off her enviable figure on the red carpet or her new man Russell Brand for that matter! Our favourite Katy Perry hairstyle of the night had to be this glamorous up do with side-sweeping fringe. It was refreshing to see the singer with a sexy pleat as opposed to her usual curls. Celebrity hairstylist Danilo created this look and shares his step-by-step guide with us.

Step 1:

First I dampened Katy's hair with Pantene Pro-V Time Renewal night nourishing (£3.99 nationwide and boots.com) to smooth and condition her hair. Then I sectioned it off and applied a volumising mousse to the roots of each section to provide additional volume, before drying smooth.

Step 2:

I sectioned the back and underneath of Katy's hair and set it using curling tongs by pinning each lock up and allowed it to cool for around 30 minutes.

Step 3:

I brushed the curled sections out to create smooth bouncy volume and added Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Serum (£3.99 nationwide and boots.com) to smooth the ends and give her hair a shiny finish.

Step 4:

Finally, I finished the look by brushing the sides and back into a high ponytail position, then folded the tail round into the top securing it with pins to create a contemporary take on a classic chignon.

Blow-dry your hair and fringe first - dry your fringe over to the left and then the right and finally straight forward to keep it under control - and use a tong, or my favourite, the Remington Ribbon Curl (£14.99 amazon.co.uk) for these loose waves like Reese. Curl small sections, brush your fringe to the desired side and then spray into place. If you are having trouble keeping your fringe in place use a small kirby grip to pin it up to one side while you do your make-up, then let it down before you leave the house. Voilà! It takes minutes, looks fab and will last throughout the party season, as you can add a sparkly head band or pop it into a loose ponytail to change the look.

We were starting to think that Scarlett Johannson had settled into being a stay-at-home wife lately - she's hardly stepped a Christian Louboutin clad foot on to the red carpet in weeks. But thankfully here she is making a glamorous appearance at the Moët and Chandon Tribute to Cinema event in Tokyo. Celebrity hairdresser David Babaii travelled with Scarlett to create this side-sweeping textured bob this week. David told us he first rough-dried Scarlett's hair with a hair drier and then curled large sections - you can use a tong or heated rollers - which he sprizted with hairspray to hold. Once the hair was completely dry, David combed out the curls with his fingers and then loosely twisted the sections up and to the side. There is no rule to this, simply take small sections and pin into place - the messier the better. Scarlett has long hair so David cupped it under and pinned it into place to give the illusion of short a bob.

And the finishing touch? A DeBeers hair jewel of course... worth thousands of pounds. Maybe being an A-list house wife isn't so bad after all. Dear Santa...

Seen in various forms on the catwalk it was only a matter of time before the celebrities picked up on the trend for pretty plaits. The very lovely Liz McClarnon made an appearance at the swish fifth birthday party of Reveal magazine rubbing shoulders with other celebrities some of whom guest edit the mag. Liz became Celebrity Masterchef Champion 2008 and has since been trekking up and down the country with the Love Pork tour, teaching people how to cook a great bit of British pork; anyone who can teach us how to make real crackling is alright by us. The very flashy Campari Calendar Cocktail Party held in Milan was attended by the beautiful. Bond girl with bite, Olga Kurylenko, turned the party into a mini catwalk show with a quick change of outfit and hairstyle. She began the evening in a demure knee-length high-necked red dress, later metamorphising into a full-length long-sleeved form fitting dress, also in hot red. Her hair meanwhile was quickly and brilliantly transformed. An elegant updo with side-sweeping fringe was turned into a more fashion forward style with textured quiff created out of said fringe. The 7^th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party at MILK Studios in California was, as you'd expect, full of fresh-faced young things sporting glossy locks, gazelle-like legs and many a thigh-skimming dress.

Among the guests were Kelly Osbourne and her boyfriend sporting near identical blonde bowl haircuts, the daughters of the Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane and of course the gorgeous cast of the new Beverly Hills 90210. AnnaLynne McCord, who plays spoilt Californian princess Naomi Clark in the teen drama, usually wears her blonde curls wild and proud but chose a side-parted ponytail for the party, perfectly complementing her school mistress chic high-necked dress.

We're quite partial to a flash of jazz hands and impromptu karaoke sessions here at Handbag Towers. We also do a lovely Happy Birthday chorus so of course some of us are very excited at the release of the new Fame film. We're not sure how they can deliver the in-depth characters of the TV series in a mere 90-minute film, but we are expecting awesome dance routines and some belting songs, along with the prerequisite leg warmers and character clichés you come to expect in this movie genre.

However, the bubbly blonde Kherington Payne who plays Alice in the film looked stunning at the premiere of the film in Los Angeles this week. Sporting a deconstructed updo which looked young and funky rather than classic and frumpy she accessorised it with one of the coolest hair bands we've seen made of linked metal circles - very glam and very cool. We've yet to spot one similar in the shops but there is an abundance of feathered and leather versions to choose from instead, take a look at the hair accessories seen on the catwalk for inspiration.

London Fashion Week ended with an incredibly stylish bang yesterday as the Burberry show attracted a whole host of the fashion elite along with many a Burberry clad celebrity. Leading the way in the style stakes was the current face of Burberry, Emma Watson, who wowed onlookers (and us) with a sophisticated twisted updo and wide side-parting. The Harry Potter star has been causing waves in the fashion and beauty world of late, thanks to her impeccable fashion choices and elegant, understated beauty - transforming from fledgling actress into beauty and fashion icon.

Emma's chic updo only seemed to get better as the night wore on and she was snapped at the Burberry after-party (bottom right picture) with a few tendrils hanging loose in that effortlessly chic way the celebs always seem to do so well. Get this look for yourself by smoothing on serum to the front section (avoiding the roots) and twisting the back to form a roll, before pinning into place with plenty of Kirby grips and fixing with plenty of hairspray.

The 61^st Primetime Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles yesterday and as well as some fabulous frocks on display the hairdos were certainly something to talk about. From a questionable but on-trend extreme length plait sported by Blake Lively to the favoured style of many an A-list lady - the bun.

Be it side, back, sleek or messy the bun was the favoured hairstyle of the night copying recent pictures from the catwalks of New York and London Fashion Week. The bun is such a versatile hairstyle and as such suits many face shapes and hair textures. If you have naturally curly hair you can work with the texture and create a very loose, low bun in the style of Debra Messing. Yet long straight hair looks gorgeous in the sleek and chic style sported by the very beautiful (and very pregnant) Heidi Klum.

Hair accessories are going to be hot news for autumn/winter 2009 with feathers, flowers and grips all used with abandon on the catwalks. Actress Eva Mendes shows her fashion forward credentials with this dramatic Dolce & Gabbana hair band and, just like any girl with a favourite new accessory, she can't seem to take it off. She was even snapped wearing it twice in two days at the 66th Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

She first accessorises a voluminous ponytail with the chic black hair band teaming it with a racy animal print red and black floor length gown on the red carpet before teaming it with an on-trend bun and gorgeous nude and black lace dress. At last night's Coco Before Chanel film premiere in New York there was a monochrome theme. Star of the film Audrey Tautou wore a black and white - Chanel of course - little number, Helena Christensen and Rachel Bilson were clad head-to-toe in black and models-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn and Leigh Lezark opted for newly dyed blacker than black hair, cut into an on-trend bob.

It would seem the blonde hues of summer are fading away with everyone opting for dark tresses in time for autumn, with shades of cherry, plum and aubergine proving popular. We've got Cheryl Cole to thank for that one!

Last night Agyness opted for a shaggy bowl-cut bob with a touch of tomboy charm to it without a trace of her trademark platinum blonde locks anywhere to be seen, and Leigh went for an up-to-date version of the Pob - basically it's sharp, angled and not graduated. Anna Wintour eat your heart out.

London colourist Karine Jackson says, "Raven black hues complement a cool complexion which both Agnes and Leigh have. Both blue and grey eyes gain intensity. Drew Barrymore has always been a kooky one and for that we salute her, but her new dip-dye job has the office divided. Some say she's so cute and quirky she can carry off bleached blonde hair tipped with deep brown colour, others think no one over the age of 14 should indulge in this kind of dye job. However, pictured with co-star Ellen Page at the spotlight on Whip It, her directorial debut feature film, which she also stars in event, we can't help feeling the out-there hairdo is going to suit a film about an indie-loving misfit dealing with her small town misery by joining a roller derby full of hot gals with such names as Malice in Wonderland and Dinah Might.

Plus, the two have already courted controversy after modelling for two seriously hot photo shoots in US mags Vs and Marie Claire, in which the two of them are photographed kissing and straddling each other. Good publicity ploy or merely Drew being Drew? Much like the crazy dye job dilemma we'll let you decide.

In the meantime Francesca Davies, Headmasters Art Director has put together a dos and don'ts for dip-dying if you fancy giving it a go.

This trend is extremely kooky and would work in style for someone in their 20's.  Drew Barrymore is naturally cool so beware - this is a hard look to carry off!

This look works best on textured hair – it makes the dip-dye effect more tongue-in-cheek and less try-hard.

Drew's blonde is very gold which makes the contrast between the two colours very drastic.  If you are going to copy Drew's style I would recommend an icy white blonde to carry off the contrast with the darker colour.

If you don't want to go for a strong colour contrast but like the dipping trend, warm blondes should opt for copper on the ends and those with dark hair could go for rich intense red.

For a taster try introducing slices of colour as opposed to covering all of the ends.

The commitment level of this style is extremely high, blondes beware! If you do this look be prepared for a harsh cut or long chemical service to remove.

This style looks best on one-length styles – do not attempt if your hair is heavily graduated with layers!

Now usually we would be agog and aghast at such root growth but for some reason we don't actually hate this look on the once teen popstrel. First of all, can I get a ‘woo woo' for the very fact that they are filming a new Sex And The City film. We had our doubts when they first announced they were making the first film but then it turned out to be the super stylish, gorgeously girly, heartfelt flick we hoped for. So with high hopes for the second, the few pics that have snuck out from the set already have us salivating at the site of Carrie's glittery Louboutins.

This week actress Rachel McAdams waved the flag for us short-haired ladies at the premiere of her latest film, The Time Traveler's Wife. Known for her glamorous updos, this curly bob was a welcome change to the abundance of long hairstyles favoured by the A-listers at the moment.

Rachel wowed the crowds - Eric Bana wasn't looking so bad either! - in a low-cut white dress and pretty bob with a seductive side-sweeping fringe. Her new hairstyle took years off the 31-year-old actress, leaving her looking fresh-faced rather than worn out from all the red carpet hopping she's been doing of late.

To achieve this look, keep your fringe straight and blow-dry it to one side, bearing in mind that the bigger the sweep the sexier the look. A diffuser or some good curling tongs will help to create the curls but make sure you apply some serum before styling to ensure your 'do stays frizz-free all night.

It's official, a few months ago everyone was sporting the latest crop but now length and colour is back. Victoria Beckham was spotted last week with a large dolly bun hair piece, Cheryl Cole has added even more length and a cherry colour to her locks and here is controversial style icon Lady Gaga sporting a mix of punk rock and '80s glamour, all while wearing her staple leotard, of course.

We think it's great to see the celebrities experimenting with colour and we are sure more of Cheryl Cole's cherry red will be an autumn/winter hit - but pastel purples and pinks? OK, so Lady Gaga likes to experiment with her style but would you go for pastel highlights... ever?

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Vanessa Hudgens was apparently fuming over boyfriend Zac Efron's recent dinner date with the smouldering Megan Fox. Your comments included, "Surely Megan would eat Zac alive?" - maybe that's why Vanessa was so worried.
