Zooey Deschanel abandons her standard issue quirky-girl curls for a more polished red-carpet do. It’s much more polished than we’re used to from Zooey (it’s a little bit Kate Middleton posh girl hair), but she looks fantastic.
All the latest from the red carpet 2012
The red carpet at the Golden Globes is the perfect place to showcase a mega hairstyle, so it’s little wonder that there were some great looks at last night’s awards.
Leading the pack was the trend for slicked back updos or crops; Rooney Mara obviously shone in this department with her androgynous side-parted crop, while Angelina Jolie demonstrated the power of the severe bun. Claire Danes and Evan Rachel Wood both looked amazing with light blonde, brushed back updos. This type of minimal, boyish hairstyle is sometimes the perfect foil to a dramatic red carpet gown. Kelly Osbourne also teamed her statement Zac Posen frock with a grey-blue slicked back hairstyle.
Other stars chose a more au naturel approach to their red carpet hair: Kate Winslet continued to rock her short, dishevelled blonde waves and Reese Witherspoon followed suit with a beachy, bed-head hairstyle. At the other end of the scale, some starlets went down the perfectly coiffed route with extravagant ‘60s styles. Jessica Chastain led the way with her strawberry blonde, voluminous blow dry. Nicole Richie showed off the perfect red carpet ponytail: elegant, full of body and just sculptured enough to look sensational. Zooey Deschanel had a very sexy ‘60s look going on, including her trademark heavy blunt fringe and curled-under ends.
Most celebrities kept it simple, but a few opted for hair accessories to finish off their Golden Globes look. Michelle Williams and Charlize Theron both accessorised short, wavy hairstyles with pretty headbands.
Best hair of the night has to be shared between Zooey Deschanel, Angelina Jolie and Andrea Riseborough: Zooey for her maximised version of her trademark style, Angelina for being scarily, severely beautiful, and Andrea for her dreamy Hollywood waves. On the flipside, there has been much debate about Kelly Osbourne's new blue rinse and Tilda Swinton’s swooshy quiff.
