Sun-kissed brunette

Sun-kissed brunettes have taken over from last year\'s bitter chocolate brown brigade. Fine slices of hazel, toffee or dark blonde shades framing the face and breaking up the base tone creates an attractive mixture of light and shade - and proves that brunettes can do beach hair.

Ponytail parade

The ponytail obsession continues from low-down prom queen to high-rise Russian gymnast. Whether top of the head, nape of the neck or somewhere in between, the brief is stylish and super-luxe. A good shape and show ring standard levels of shine are a must.

Retro beauty parlour hair

Hair gets dressed up with \'brushed out\' sets creating bad-girl body and blurred curls. It\'s a confident, sexy look that exudes glamour with an edge inspired by an era of weekly appointments but with a modern twist that makes it more low maintenance.

\'60s style bob

The bob has been creating a buzz in the hair industry for months, and is a look that has also been given the nod on the fashion catwalk. The definitive look is a small, subtly shattered shape with either a sharp centre or side parting and lots of polish. At the moment, bobs are generally being cut with less layers for a look that is quite classic, sleek and sharp.

Long, sleek and centre-parted

Straight hair has always been a favourite of the Alpha-female wishing to shine, but the new straight hasn\'t been ironed to within an inch of its life, it\'s more about blow-drying using a round brush, with body and movement keeping things believable. Wearing it very long and parted dead centre is hot right now – though slightly off-centre is often more flattering.

Big name hairdressers have been getting excited about bouffant as a trend for a while now and of course its influence have spilled over into La La land and backcombed roots and piled high Hitchcock blonde up-dos have graced the red carpet. The overall effect should be sleek and ladylike not beyond birds-nest.

Ice maiden blonde

Scandinavian style shades of vanilla and platinum blonde are the perfect accompaniment to the \'50s vibe that is informing fashion. The trick to achieving this striking and distinctive look is to go for an all over colour rather than highlights, but unless you want trailer park roots this is a look that\'s a lot more high maintenance than a handful of highlights.

Dark sandy blonde

This season we\'re seeing a new blonde on the block. A much richer, darker almost non-blonde; think old gold or warm sand. Created using a darker blonde base with lots of gold, copper gold and a hint of light chestnut woven through in just the right areas to achieve the variations of tone throughout. This colour is very flattering, very achievable on a range of natural hair colours from light brown through to light blonde.

Multi-tonal blonde

The multi-tonal blonde has become a modern classic combining high glamour with low maintenance as subtle regrowth allows for a more relaxed approach to colour appointments. Complementary shades from the blonde, copper and light brunette family should be blended and smudged to best showcase skin tone and eye colour.
