Hair Icon - Eva Longoria
Every month we unveil our handbag hair icon, with top styling tips from the UK's finest hairdressers on how you can recreate her day and night looks yourself...
Star of fabulous hit show 'Desperate Housewives', the latest lovely face of L'Oréal and now...our handbag hair icon! Hairdressing hotshot Chris Munt - member of Clynol Creative Team and top session stylist to the stars - shows us how to recreate this diva's sultry, sexy locks for ourselves.
Eva by day...
Natural curls flatter Eva's face Eva's daytime look is all about body, shine and understated glamour. This is a great style for shoulder-length to long hair, and will look perfect on those of you with darker locks and plenty of sheen. This kind of high-gloss shine helps add the X factor to any look. Chris Munt, a hairdressing hotshot who teases the tresses of our favourite starlets regularly, suggests trying Clynol's Brillaince (01296 314100 or www.clynol.com), 'a semi-permanent colour that adds tone, shine and condition to your hair – plus it washes out gradually so there's no obvious re-growth at the roots!' Not a look worthy of an A-lister!
For this super-chic daytime style, Chris advises 'spritzing the hair with a good volumising spray, like Clynol's Massive Volume Spray (£7.05) then, with a good round barrel brush, take a section of hair, wrap around the brush and dry. Once dry, switch your dryer to cool to lock in that sexy wave.' Once you've done this to all sections of the hair, spray with a light finishing spray, like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum Finishing Spray (£4.16, 020 7851 9800) to leave your tresses super-glossy and frizz-free.
If this all sounds a bit fiddly for you, Chris says 'try the new heated Conical Wand Hair Curler from Babyliss (£29.99, www.babyliss.co.uk). Take sections of hair, spritz with Clynol's Flatter Iron Spray (£8.10) to lock in the wave and protect the hair. Once done, put your head down, mist with a shine-finishing spray and finish with a quick blast of cold hair from your dryer.' Complete this super-sexy daytime look with a chic alice band.
Eva by night...
Eva's got it going on Half-up dos are set to be huge this season, and when combined with this kind of body, you've got a super-chic, up-to-the-minute style that makes a real statement. 'To create this stunning evening look, section hair into two and blow-dry the bottom half normally,' says Chris, 'then take a large-toothed comb or Mason Pearson brush (www.masonpearson.com) and backcomb a section of the hair from the top. Keep calm! This isn't as scary as it sounds – just hold the top of the section with one hand and, with your brush/comb in the other, use long smooth strokes down.'
Remember, her hair is all about gloss, so keep some shine-finishing spray handy to give your tresses high-reflective sheen Eva would be proud of – Chris advises 'adding a spritz of gloss spray either to the hair or the brush/comb, then brush out the backcombing. Not completely though, you'll need it to add oomph to this style. Next, secure the top back with an invisible band - et voila! A celebrity up-do of your very own.'
