British actress and newlywed Emily Blunt oozed glamour at the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in LA wearing a stunning lilac one-shouldered Dior dress, grey smoky eye make-up and a 1920s style updo adorned with a diamante hair pin. Celebrity stylist Laini Reeves, (www.essensualslondon.com) was on hand to help Emily achieve her pinned under sleek 20s hairstyle designed to match that heavenly Dior gown. Thankfully after styling Emily's hair for her recent wedding, Laini knew exactly what to do.
Here are Laini's top five steps to achieving this red carpet hairstyle.
1.
After washing Emily's hair I added a cocktail of Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream and the original Moroccanoil Treatment through the damp mid-lengths and ends to control flyaway's and provides natural-looking, soft hold.
2.
Next, I made a low side-part on the right, pin-curled hair (do this by winding small sections of your hair around your index finger and pinning the curl up while it sets) in alternating patterns twisting the hair anti-clockwise, clockwise, anti-clockwise. Since Emily's gown had a beautiful beaded accent on the right shoulder, I wanted to place the hair behind the ear to show this off.
3.
I then misted Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray on wet hair and let it air-dry for one hour while make-up was applied. I didn't use a hairdryer as I didn't want the hair blown in any way, instead I wanted it to look authentic with all ends nice and neat so the waves would look softer yet controlled when they were brushed out.
4.
Once hair had air-dried, I released the pin-curls and raked my fingers through the hair. I used a panel brush to keep hair flat to the head so it wouldn't disturb the root movement of the wave, and gently brushed from part to ends so hair fell into a lovely wave.
5.
Finally, I shaped and styled the flow of the look. I framed the left side of Emily's face with a cascade of waves (and placed a hidden hair pin to hold it in place). To accent the look, I attached a diamond accessory in the hair above the right ear (I crossed two bobby pins, clipped on the jewel, and sewed it in with silver thread). Since we wanted the style to look a bit shorter and also accent the nape of the neck, I created a pin-curled, textured effect at the nape of the neck to create the updo' effect before finishing with hairspray.
