Hitting the shops before Christmas may be testing on your wallet, sanity and feet - but it does wonders for your waist line.

According to research by shopping inspiration app Udozi and YouGov the average Brit will walk just under 20 miles to complete their Christmas shopping, which burns an average of 1,572 calories.

That's almost a whole day's worth of calories. Happy days.

So to keep you going when pounding the high street this Christmas - plan how you can enjoy those extra calories.

Here's what you can chow down on...

3 x mince pies = 531 Kcal

175 ml glass of white wine = 116 Kcal

Handful of roasted cashews = 162 Kcal

4x Quality Street chocolates = 157 Kcal

Medium sized portion of Christmas pudding without brandy cream = 550 Kcal

That's a total of 1526 calories all for your eating pleasure...and because you've already burnt them off it doesn't really count. Right?
