The bacteria found in human faeces can help transform usually bad-for-you sausages into a health food similar to probiotic yogurt.
Foods that contain live probiotic bacteria have been found to have many health benefits including burning off belly fat, treating depression and could even prevent urinary-tract infections.
But why baby poo?
We hear you, probiotic yogurt already exists - why do we need probiotic poo sausages, just eat the yogurts already and stop with this madness.
But according to researchers in Spain, the sausages, "will give an opportunity to consumers who don't take dairy products the possibility to include probiotic foods to their diet," explained the study's author Anna Jofré.
In order for probiotic bacteria to do their job, they must survive the acids in the digestive tract - hence the poop.
Researchers used 43 fecal samples of babies under six months old (kindly donated in nappies by midwives) and then they were used to make a type of chorizo sausage.
Findings published in the Journal of Meat Science (added to the reading list) said the sausages tasted really good, despite being healthier and lower in fat.
However the researchers did note that no one is currently interested in commercially producing them. Yet.
