Will a cut in VAT encourage you to go shopping?

The government is expected to announce a temporary cut in VAT today.

Chancellor Alastair Darling wants the public to go shopping to help kick-start the struggling British economy, and he hopes reducing VAT from 17.5% to 15% will encourage people to spend, spend, spend.

How has the recession affected your spending habits? Are still buying clothes and make-up or have you cut back to the bare essentials?

Will a cut in VAT encourage you to spend more in the shops?

Is the government doing enough to help consumers during these difficult times, or should it be bringing in even more tax cuts to help the less well off?
